Filter more details of Intel GPUs: between 4 GB and 16 GB of memory

Without too many surprises according to what we have been seeing in the last year, but there are interesting things to highlight in this new leak. Starting with the DG2 Alchemist models, of which there is no trace of the 448 EU version, so in principle and in the absence of the official presentation we are facing 5 GPU models.

Intel DG2 Alchemist Memory Configuration

Intel is clear: 5 models that will arrive to cover the entire possible market, which includes PCs and laptops used for gaming and casual. The models are curiously specified as DG2 NB SKU from 1 to 5, where only two will share a VRAM memory configuration, differing only in their number of EU units, so they will have different power.

What is clear is that Intel with these configurations will not compete for the high range as NVIDIA and AMD do, something that was foreseeable if we have followed previous rumors chronologically. The SKU1 version will have 512 US with 8 VRAM modules and a bus of only 256 bit which will house 16 GB of GDDR6 memory at 16Gbps (512GB/s) with a voltage of 1.35V attached to a PCB 12 layers.

The SKU2 version with 384 US Lower your requirements to 12GB from GDDR6 to 16Gbps in a configuration of 6 chips attached to a bus 192 bit, giving a bandwidth of 384GB/s, so being the same modules as its older sister will use the same voltage and require a 12 layer PCB, according to Intel, type 3.

The mid and low range defensively

Intel ARC Alchemist Cover

Intel is not going to attack from the start, that is reflected in the configurations described above, but a greater offensive was expected in the mid and low range where it should compete according to the portfolio based on rumors.

SKU3 with 256 EU will have 4 VRAM chips GDDR6 at 16Gbps with a bus 128 bit, resulting in only 256GB/s of bandwidth for a PCB of 10 layers of type 3. Lastly, the two low-end GPUs, the first being SKU4 with 128 EU and the second SKU5 with 96 EU, where as we anticipated they share memory configuration.

This will be made up of two GDDR6 VRAM chips at 14Gbps via a bus 64 bit giving a bandwidth of 112GB/s with only 4GB of VRAM, where, being its memories of lower frequency, it will only need 1.25V to work. His PCB instead is stripped down to a type 3 with 8 layers.

With these configurations we can only expect a competition with the RTX 3070 Ti 16 GB and the RX 6800, we do not know if it is above, below or right in the middle of both, that is why it is surprising that Intel does not name the DG2 ARC Alchemist from 448 EU. It remains to be seen if the frequencies will be as high as what we have seen and there is more hope for good performance.
