All of us, this medium included, thought that the new Sony’s QD-OLED, the acclaimed A95K, was going to be launched on the market with a prohibitive price, but nothing could be further from the truth. Thanks to Sony’s points rewards system and the detail of the Youtuber Vincent Teoh we can calculate with a more than remarkable precision the official price in the United States.

Compared to traditional WRGB OLED panels (those used to date), the new QD-OLED panels manufactured by Samsung have a number of advantages: noticeably higher gloss (both full screen and 10%), increased coverage of the BT2020 color gamut (up to 91% compared to 75% today) and better color saturation regardless of whether the item is bright or dim (something that does not happen in current OLEDs, when the color is washed out by the action of the white sub-pixel).

Filtered the price of the Sony A95K: gift points are the key

Sony, on its web pages associated with a points bonus depending on the product purchased. For example, for the Sony A90J for which Sony asks on its website $ 3,300 for its 65-inch version, they give away 3,300 points. If we check the web, we will see that no matter how cheap or expensive the television is, there is always a parity of 1 dollar = 1 point.

What happens if we go to the file of the Sony A95K? which has no set price, but if we can know the number of points they will give us: 4000 and 3000, depending on whether we bought the 65-inch model or the 55.

And will it be worth these prices if we look at the OLEDs of the competition (LG)? Only time will tell, but what is certain is that finally we find a big leap in OLED technologynow based on quantum dots (QD or Quantum Dots) instead of the traditional RGB color filter.

Not only did we improve in this aspect, but now the subpixels are not white but… and after almost 10 years of waiting, we can finally see a real RGB panel: each pixel is exclusively made up of red, green and blue (RGB) sub-pixels, thus increasing color richness (and supposedly the brightness, since it does not have to go through any filter to generate the color) with the use of the Quantum Dots.

Other aspects that we already know are its ability to reach values of 1000 nits peak brightness at 10%, 1500 nits at 1% and 200 full screen, in addition to other important improvements in the color theme and the burn and retention system. Although we doubt that it will be in calibrated modes, it already represents a great advance in this technology. Also, any competition is always welcome for the market and us the buyers.

Sony has not yet revealed its official prices (nor has Sony Spain), but We leave you here a summary of the official prices of the United States (extrapolated based on the gift points they give on the official Sony website); We will update this news as soon as we know more information.
