find out what’s new and install it

The Torrent network is more alive than ever. When it seemed that the streaming platforms for series and movies were going to put an end to piracy, they have finally shot themselves in the leg by changing their conditions and have made many users dust off their old black caps again. If we have ever downloaded files from this P2P network, surely the first program that comes to mind is uTorrent. However, for some time now, this is not, by far, the best. And there is a new king when it comes to downloads: Transmission.

Transmission is a totally free and open source program, originally developed for Linux, that allows us to download all kinds of files from the torrent network. This program has everything that we can find in any other download program, with the addition of having a very clear, simple and orderly interface, it is very fast, it consumes few resources and it is very easy to configure. In addition, it is completely free, open source, and has no trace of advertising, unlike the popular uTorrent.

But there is always room for improvement.

Find out what’s new in Transmission 4.0

It is true that the development of this torrent program may seem somewhat slow, since it does not have a large organization behind it. However, little by little it is receiving all kinds of improvements and new features in order to continue being the king.

The new version 4.0 has arrived this week to the surprise of the users of this download client. With it, the developers want to start a new era by introducing all kinds of improvements, changes and corrections to the program.

The first of the improvements in this update is its performance. The developers have reduced the use of CPU cycles to greatly improve the performance of the program. In this way, compared to version 3.0, Transmission 4.0 consumes half the CPU, and 70% less RAM, when downloading up to 25,000 torrents at the same time.

Another of the improvements that has been introduced in the program is the use of the RPC APIs in the remote control interface, resulting in less load and less bandwidth expense.

He source code of the program has also undergone an enormous modification. Its developers have migrated all the code from C to C++, making the program more stable and easier to maintain, as well as being 18% smaller.

Other news related to security and privacy is that it now has an IPv6 block list, and a new user-agent to improve privacy and to be able to customize the size of torrents.

Finally, support has finally been introduced for the new Bittorent v2 standardas well as for hybrid torrents, allowing these files to be downloaded, although it still does not allow the creation of torrents in this format.

This new version is now available for all major operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux, on the Transmission website. From here we can download and install it on our computer. If we already have a previous version on the PC, it will automatically be updated with these improvements and new features.

We remind you that Transmission is not only available for PC, but we can also install it on embedded systems, such as routers, hard drives and NAS to facilitate and automate downloads.
