Flight Simulator improves its map of the Iberian Peninsula

They go, since the launch of Flight Simulator in August 2020, eight updates with which Microsoft and Asobo have added new maps, challenges, improvements and optimizations… without a doubt, the commitment assumed by the company when affirming that the relaunch of its mythical flight simulator was only the beginning is proving to be totally true. And we are talking about eight updates, all quite remarkable, in less than two years, in addition to having recently brought the game to Xbox Cloud, so that even more users can enjoy it.

And the latest update, World Update 8, is especially exciting news for Flight Simulator players in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra (well, and the UK for Gibraltar), as this time the objective of the update has been the Iberian Peninsulawith improved maps, as well as new airports and points of interest.

Start exploring the coastal corners of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the heights of the Pyrenees and the legendary architecture of cities like Lisbon and Madrid with World Update VIII: Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra”, we read in the information about the update. “Fly over the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia to appreciate its architectural details, admire the innovation of the Segovia Aqueduct and the richness of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.” are some of the new proposals offered by this update.

Flight Simulator improves its map of the Iberian Peninsula

Among the novelties of the World Update 8 of Flight Simulator we find photogrammetry treatment for the cities of Barreiro, Bilbao, Cascais, Coimbra, Lisbon and Malaga, in addition to four new airports designed by hand to provide maximum realism. They are the ones from La Seu d’Urgell (LESU), Pico (LPPI), Faro (LPFR) and A Coruña (LECO), and after having reviewed them and compared them with their previous versions, I can confirm that the difference is simply abysmal.

This Flight Simulator update also includes four scenic flights (Portugal, Pyrenees, Mediterranean Coast, Iberia Connection), new discovery flights (around Barcelona, Coimbra, Gibraltar, Lisbon and Madrid) and five new landing challenges (Girona, Bilbao, Pico Airport, León and Portimao). In addition, according to the information in the update, the data of 100 airports has also been improved and more than 1,000 facilities of this type that were not present until now have been added.

As far as points of interest are concerned, now we will find 99 more, such as the Alqueva dam, the Sagrada Família, the Mallos de Riglos Natural Monument and the Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Center. As you can see, the offer of new places to explore is very varied and interesting, and the ones I have explored so far (only a small fraction) already justify a few more hours of exploration in Flight Simulator.
