Food 4 Future – Expo Foodtech is already preparing its second edition, after the success of its first event in which more than 5,000 leaders of the food industry participated. Biscay will host May 17-19 a contest in which there will be more than 6,000 professionals in the food industry, also increasing the weight of international visitors after the decrease in travel restrictions around the world.
Food 4 Future is consolidated as well as the international reference forum for the agri-food industry and its auxiliary industry (machinery companies, chemical industry, biotechnology, research, etc.), leading, under three strategic axes – sustainability, innovation and technology-, the innovation of the industry in all its segments: meat, beverages, fisheries, dairy, fruit and vegetables, cereals, preserves, and oil.
From the economy to society
The food industry represents 11% of world GDP, with a demand growth expected 70% between now and 2025. In addition, it is estimated that the digitization of this industry throughout Europe will generate an impact of more than 300,000 million euros between 2021 and 2025. In Spain, the food industry moves more than 130,000 million euros , which translates into 22.1% of national employment and 19% of GDP.
The biggest challenge that the agri-food industry faces today is feeding more than 7.9 billion people; a challenge that will become more complicated since the UN population growth forecasts indicate that in 2050 9,000 million people will coexist on our planet, and approximately 11,000 million by the end of the century. Along with this, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) confirms that a third of agricultural land is degraded and that 22% of livestock breeds are at risk of extinction; to which should be added the population figures with malnutrition problems and malnutrition, on the rise after the 2020 health crisis.
The reading of this reality is clear: it is essential to reformulate current business models to address the diet of the world’s population in a different way. The challenges posed by this situation, the formulas and projects that are already being implemented, and the solutions that are currently being investigated around the world will be present at Food 4 Future so that the leaders of the agri-food industry, in charge of feeding us, find the technological solutions and the necessary knowledge to draw a more equitable and sustainable path.
Automation and robotics
Food 4 Future is preparing a second edition full of content, success stories and news where more than 250 brands, large companies, SMEs and startups will be represented, in an exhibition area where professionals will find technological solutions and food products that will help modernize and digitize the entire value chain of the industry, from raw materials to logistics processes.
In addition, the congress will bring together more than 350 speakers, in vertical sessions and forums for each sector of the agri-food industry, which will focus the debate on the great challenges of the industry, and where they will especially shine: the application of automation and robotics, the transition to the new industry 4.0, and the contents related to the sustainable and healthy eating.
