Former Sonic Team Director Launches Own Mobile Game

We tested the new game from former Sonic Team director Yuji Naka. He doesn’t look like much, but he’s nice.

After having been the director of the Sonic Team studio, which as its name suggests is in charge of game development Sonic, Yuji Naka decided to found his own studio called Clean in 2006. He who wanted to be more involved in the process of creating games, has just released a small mobile title, already available on iOS and Android. This one is called SHOT2048 and takes up the principle of an already very famous game.

Indeed, it is a variant of 2048, a game which consists of merging numbers of the same values in order to obtain at the end the famous 2048. However, we often run out of time, or space, before reaching our goal. The goal is therefore to optimize your movements and be as strategic as possible. SHOT2048, it’s the same thing, but with dice.

We tested, and it’s not too bad for a first game

When you launch the game, you have in front of you a board, which looks like a mini pool table, as well as a dice. Throw it on the board, and repeat this action with all the other dice that will be given to you. You will then have to try to merge them by throwing the dice so that they touch each other when they are of the same value. The only difficulty is not to run out of space, and not to throw a dice into the red surface which covers the first half of the board.

It is a very simple operation, but rather effective when you want to pass the time, in transport or during a break for example. The mechanics of physics are rather well respected and the finishes are rather clean. Obviously, microtransactions would have no use in such a game, Yuji Naka therefore relies on advertising to finance his creation. These appear when you lose your game, and are no more disturbing than that.

The most impressive thing about this story is that SHOT2048 is the very first game that Yuji Naka has developed with his own hands, in his 37-year career. He crafted it on his own from start to finish of the creation process, which is a source of pride for the developer. If you want to test it, go to your mobile, iOS or Android devices, the game is available there for free.
