As you know, war is raging in Ukraine where Vladimir Putin has decided to put his threats into action. The Russian army attacked several strategic sites in the country, and the capital Kiev is now surrounded. And while the conflict is being waged on the streets of Ukraine, Russia has also worked to undermine the country’s IT infrastructure. A massive cyberattack has been launched to delete data from thousands of PCs in the country.

However, the Ukrainian government has already prepared the response and is currently forming an army of hackers to protect the country’s vital infrastructures, and to spy on Russian networks in search of crucial information. Moreover, the Anonymous collective has already given their support to Ukraine and assures to be “officially in cyberwar” against Russia.

At the same time, many associations and companies are mobilizing to help Ukraine at their level. This is for example the case of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Global Living, the Ukrainian humanitarian fund or even Free. Indeed, theFrench operator has just made an announcement that will (a little) make life easier for its customers who seek to contact loved ones stuck in the country.

Free lowers the price of calls to Ukraine

From today, the price of calls to Ukraine is reduced. Here are the details of the new rates that apply:

From a Freebox:

  • €0.21/min to landlines (instead of €0.27)
  • €0.21/min to mobiles (instead of €0.39)
  • Connection cost set at €0.12

From a Free mobile plan or €2 plan:

  • €0.21/min to landlines and mobiles (instead of €0.54)

From a Free Series mobile plan (temporary plans):

  • €0.21/min to landlines and mobiles (instead of €0.80)

Note that these new rates for calls to Ukraine will remain in effect until April 30, 2022. Of course, nothing prevents Free from extending this measure if the conflict continues in the country. As a reminder, this is not the first time that Free has made a commitment to make life easier for its users. During the first confinement in March 2020, Free improved its €2 package by inflating the data envelope, going from 50 MB to 1 GB.
