After announcing the arrival of VoLTE on all compatible smartphones in November 2021, Free Mobile confirms support for this technology on all devices launched since January 1, 2022. Please note, only plan holders Free 5G and Pro will be able to take advantage of it.
On November 18, 2021, Free Mobile announced the arrival of a feature eagerly awaited by users. Indeed, the operator has confirmed support for VoLTE, a technology that allows calls to be made via the 4G network, on all compatible smartphones. This feature has the advantage of offering better audio quality in calls as well as greater responsiveness in establishing the connection with the caller.
GoldFree Mobile has just made a new announcement regarding VoLTE. The operator has just confirmed on its website that “all terminals released in France since January 1, 2022″ will automatically support VoLTE Free. This was already the case for all smartphones marketed by Free since September 1, 2021.
Be careful, however, there are certain conditions to take advantage of VoLTE. Apart from having a compatible smartphone, it will be imperative to have a Free 5G plan (whether your phone is 5G compatible or not) or Free Pro. For subscribers to the 2 € packages or to the “Free Series” packages, you will unfortunately have to do without them.
How to activate VoLTE at Free Mobile
If you tick these different boxes, here is the procedure to follow to activate VoLTe on your smartphone:
- First, send “volte” by SMS to 1337 (step not necessary on Free Pro packages)
- On iPhones, go to Settings > Cellular Data > Options > Voice & Data > VoLTE
- On Motorola devices, go to Settings > Network and Internet > Mobile Network > Advanced Settings > 4G Calls
- For other brands, no worries. If your smartphone is in the list of compatible Free devices, the option will be activated by default
As of this writing, 112 smartphones are already compatible with VoLTE. From the first quarter of 2022, other old smartphones will be added to the catalog, such as the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, the Huawei Mate Xs, P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ or the Oppo Reno 4G. Same story for the second quarter of 2022, with the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro or the Google Pixel 4a. As a reminder, Free has been offering VoWiFi to its subscribers since February 16, 2022. This technology simply allows you to make calls using your Wi-Fi network.
