The French brand OFF Global has teamed up with the iconic Finnish brand to offer a rather nice device despite its modest positioning.
The French start-up OFF Global has just announced an agreement with Nokia to launch portable computers in the brand’s colors in 22 countries, much like it had already done with HMD for its Nokia Android smartphones. It unveils its new flagship, the Nokia PureBook Pro, a versatile and economical small computer.
“The pandemic has changed lives so we work, live, travel and connect”, eexplains David Gardia, CEO of the Lyon brand. “Our goal is to offer a series of portable computers that meet the new needs of consumers in terms of productivity, comfort and design, and all at an attractive price.”, he continues in a press release.
A modest device that fully assumes its concept
This vision is embodied by a small machine equipped with a Full HD screen (1920 x 1080) in its two versions, namely 15.6 inches and 17.3 inches. The two models will measure 19mm thick for respective weights of 1.7 kg and 2.5 kg. In both cases, the panel is entitled to an anti-reflective coating and a modest 2 MP webcam. However, the latter will be more than enough for a routine interview or to follow a course by videoconference.
The touchpad occupies a generous surface which should ensure comfortable navigation. The backlit keyboard should also help; note also the presence of a fingerprint reader. On the other hand, the connection is not particularly provided. The device has a standard jack, but apart from that, there are only three USB-C ports (two of which are compatible with charging) and a micro-SD card reader. On the wireless side, it will be necessary to be satisfied with the Bluetooth 5 and WiFi 5 standards.
Alder Lake on the menu
In terms of performance, it will have an IntelCore i3 from the excellent 12th generation. This means that despite its modest positioning in the brand’s catalog, it should still offer quite decent performance for a CPU of this caliber. The Nokia PureBook Pro will be entitled to a 512 G SSD and will be served by 8 GB of DDR4 RAM that can be replaced to improve the capacity and responsiveness of the machine.
So these are small devices that could be really interesting as a first PC for young teenagers. It could also be a companion of choice for students looking for a faithful note-taking companion, for example. Professionals who spend most of their time on the go could also be seduced by this no-frills device that seems to assume its status.
The 15.6-inch version will be marketed from €699, while the 17.3-inch model will be sold for €100 more, or €799. The exact release date, however, has not been disclosed; we only know that they will be available during the second quarter of 2022.
