Galaxy S22: Samsung lets you add up to 8 GB of virtual RAM on One UI 4.1

Samsung recently launched new high-end smartphones with its in-house One UI 4.1 overlay, and this new update has doubled the amount of virtual RAM you can enjoy.

After a rather problematic deployment of the One UI 4.0 update, Samsung has just unveiled a new version 4.1 which will be available from the launch of its new high-end smartphones, the Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra. The latter brings many new features, including an option that allows you to customize the “RAM Plus” option.

For those who don’t know, Samsung launched a new feature called RAM Plus last year. The latter converts internal storage space into virtual RAM, but was previously limited to 4 GB of RAM. Moreover, like most of its competitors at Xiaomi or OPPO, it did not allow Choose precisely the amount of virtual RAM you want to add.

One UI 4.1 improves Samsung’s RAM Plus feature

Now, on One UI 4.1, users can choose precisely how much virtual RAM they want to add to their smartphone. Indeed, you will now have the choice between 2, 4, 6, and 8 GB of additional RAM. Samsung has therefore doubled the maximum amount of virtual RAMwhile providing more customization for its users.

As a reminder, these additional gigabytes of virtual RAM are in no way equivalent to physical RAM. Indeed, they are essentially only used to temporarily store information that is not immediately useful, while prioritizing that which is in use.

Nevertheless, these 8 GB of additional virtual RAM will still make it possible to make smartphones with little RAM a bit faster, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra will now be able to take advantage of up to 20 GB of RAM on the most expensive versions. In comparison, the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro only offer up to 15 GB of RAM, with MIUI only allowing 3 GB of RAM to be added at most.
