Galaxy S23: autonomy could increase slightly compared to the S22

The next Samsung Galaxy S23s should arrive as soon as the beginning of 2023, but we already know that the smaller model should be slightly more autonomous than the previous generation.

A few weeks after learning that the next Galaxy S23 Ultra would keep the same battery as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, a new report from our Korean counterparts TheElec reveals what to expect for the battery of the classic Galaxy S23. According to them, the Galaxy S23, the smallest model in the series, could well see its autonomy increase.

We already know that the Galaxy S23 will be very similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S22. Indeed, we will always find a 6.1-inch FHD + (2340 x 1080 pixels) screen. The dimensions will however be slightly different, 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6mm for the Galaxy S23, compared to 146.0 x 70.6 x 7.6 mm for the Galaxy S22. Unexpectedly, the borders of the screen will increase by 0.15 mm, and these small differences should allow Samsung to revise the battery size upwards.

Galaxy S23 battery size will increase

Based on information from The Elec, SSamsung may increase Galaxy S23 battery size by 5% compared to that of the Galaxy S22. Its 3700 mAh battery could therefore reach about 3900 mAh on the new generation next year. With this increased capacity, the battery life of the Galaxy S23 is expected to increase, but it will not be the only factor.

We know that all Galaxy S23s will benefit from Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, which promises to be much more energy efficient than the Galaxy S22’s Exynos 2200 processor. For the moment, we don’t know if the Galaxy S23+ will also benefit from a bigger battery. Its battery had recently been spotted at a certification body, but the image was too blurry for us to see its capacity. As a reminder, the Galaxy S22 + benefited from a 4500 mAh battery, which is a bit tight for a large format smartphone with a 6.7-inch screen and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
