General Motors turns this iconic model into an electric vehicle

General Motors has just presented an electric version of one of its most famous models: the Hummer.

This is not the first time that General Motors has decided to make one of its cars already on the market as an electric car. The brand had already made people talk about it, badly, after recalling all Chevrolet Bolts to the garage because of a manufacturing problem with the batteries.

But ultimately, instead of creating an electric model from scratch as Toyota (with the Yaris) or Nissan (with the Leaf) has succeeded in doing, the American brand prefers to follow in the footsteps of its European competitors, especially French ones by taking up the features of a car already well known to American drivers.

In the same way that Renault presented a “2021” version of the all-electric R5, which did not fail to react, General Motors also offered its communication coup by marketing an all-electric Hummer. This is only a half-surprise, indeed, GM announced more than a year ago the release of such a model.

Building on its ambition to launch full-time into the electric world, General Motors intends to present no less than 30 fully electric models over the next 4 years. A frantic pace of launch that risks saturating the American automobile market, while the Tesla reign supreme there today.

Numbers to lose your mind

This first edition Hummer EV is a true force of nature. With an engine of 1000 horsepower, the car is able to achieve 0 to 100 in just three seconds. Performance quite similar to a Tesla, another electric car that has succeeded in establishing itself in the automotive market.

But point of detail concerning this vehicle, the latter weighs no less than 4 tons. A monster to put on the road, which would almost require a special permit. But this car is not designed for everyone. With a range of 529 kilometers, the car is capable of driving diagonally, but also of “crabbing”.

Last little detail about this XXL vehicle, its price. Equally exorbitant. With a base of $ 110,000, customers may not be very likely to opt for this model when electric cars, faster and more efficient already exist for less. A daring bet therefore for General Motors, which has already let more than a year pass between the announcement of the arrival of the car and its marketing.
