Since COVID and successive confinements, the tablet format has made a resounding return to homes and all manufacturers must have their own. Xiaomi today presented its new Redmi Pad, a 10-inch tablet that wants to combine performance and minimum price.

The big advantage of this product is its price. Offered at 299 euros, he wants to seduce an audience looking for the perfect terminal for entertainment and video without breaking the bank. We were able to take it in hand for a few moments.

A simple, yet effective design

The Redmi Pad does not adopt a striking design (a habit at Xiaomi), but surprisingly effective. We have a one-piece aluminum shell which gives it a very chic look that is reminiscent of Apple’s iPad Pro. It is available in black, silver or blue.

In hand, it is surprisingly light despite its 10 inches. If Xiaomi has not given its exact measurements, it does not seem to exceed 500 grams, or very little. She is also very fine. Pleasant to handle, it testifies that the manufacturer has favored comfort over visuals. Note that as a base, it is not sold with a cover or a stand.

The screen part is very interesting. The Redmi Pad features a 10.6-inch 2K IPS LCD panel with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, which is always appreciated. It’s hard to say what this screen is really worth in the conditions of the grip, but the contrast seems high, as does the brightness.

The colors, for their part, seemed exaggerated to us with the default setting, a habit with the manufacturer. Only the somewhat thick edges betray the “entry-level” condition of the product, but they are quickly forgotten. Last point, the screen is SGS certified, so designed to avoid visual fatigue. A first in this format.

We note that Xiaomi has chosen to place the 8 megapixel front camera (105 degrees) lengthwise (like Samsung does), which is ideal for videos. Smart.

The sound part has also been treated with four speakers in Dolby Atmos. Even on Xiaomi’s noisy stand, the latter impress with their power. It remains to be seen if the sound is mastered.

An ideal tablet for occasional users?

On the processor side, we find a Helio G99, which seems sufficient for dedicated entertainment use (excluding video games). We will have to test its real capacities during our test. The battery is for its part of 8000 mAh and we are promised a very long autonomy. It is compatible with the fast charge of 18 Watts.

Our quick session with the tablet proved to be quite convincing. We particularly appreciate its design and its controlled screen. Xiaomi does not want to offer the most successful product on the market, but the one with the best quality/price. “I’m looking for a cheap tablet just to video chat with my friends and watch series”, we often hear. The Redmi Pad could be the answer. All that remains is to confirm the test during our test.
