Google announces new features for Android, Chrome, Wear OS and their services

Google has shown at MWC 2023 nine new features that could reach users of Android, Chrome, Wear OS and some of their services in the coming weeks, with some starting to roll out today. The intention of the giant Mountain View is not only to introduce new things, but also to improve the experience on several fronts.

The first thing is something that we already published and also from the same event: Magic Eraser. It is a photo editing tool that allows you to select elements of a photograph and eliminate them in such a way that the process is as little noticeable as possible in the final result. As is obvious by now, it uses artificial intelligence to do its homework and will apparently only remain pre-installed on Pixel smartphones, while the rest of Android and iOS devices must subscribe to at least the basic plan of Google Onewhich costs 1.99 euros per month.

The Emoji Kitchen is a feature present in the Gboard virtual keyboard that allows ccombine two different emoji into one, which opens the door to unlocking the user’s artistic streak or sending more complex hieroglyphs (the latter goes sarcastically). Google has worked to enrich the experience by adding more possibilities such as crossing emojis with the basketball, the megaphone or different flowers to mark the beginning of spring. The company has left the door open to the introduction of more combinations.

Chrome It is an important application not only on Android, but rather it is an axis of Google’s commercial policy (the currency of exchange aims to be user data on many occasions). The browser will allow zoom up to 300% and set said zoom by default across the board so you don’t have to change it every time the app is opened. Although the intention is that the feature reaches the stable branch of the browser during the month of March, the most impatient can start using it just by installing the beta channel (Chrome Beta).

The search engine giant is working to incorporate a “single Google Keep note” widget that allows one of the user’s notes to be added to the system home screen, including reminders, background colors, and any images that have been added to the note. This way it will be possible to check things off the to-do list without having to open Google Keep first.

Android

google meetthe video call and virtual meeting service, has incorporated noise cancellation to your Android and iOS apps. Of course, to access the feature it will be necessary to be a paid subscriber of Google One or one of the following editions of Google Workspace: Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Frontline, update of teaching and learning or individual Workspace subscriber. Users of a Pixel 4 or newer smartphone will have Google Meet noise cancellation available as an option.

Google Drive, the cloud storage service, has allowed viewing PDFs for years, but the company hopes that in the future users will be able to scribble on documents with just a stylus or finger, without any special configuration. for it. This can be used, for example, to highlight text.

Quick pairing jumps from Android to also reach Chromebooks, the personal computers powered by Google with ChromeOS as the operating system. Fast pairing, Fast Pair by its name in English, is a protocol that allows Bluetooth devices to be connected quickly and automatically, but for this it must be supported by both the computer and the device to be connected.

Google Pay is going to incorporate new animations, among which there is one of penguins that, when it appears, means that the payment has been made correctly. Apart from a somewhat more fun experience with the application and the service, it may also serve to make users feel a little less guilty when it comes to unleashing their consumer side.

And finally, Wear OS 3 is going to incorporate new sounds and modes of screens. There’s mono audio that can reduce the feeling of split audio, and color correction and grayscale modes to adjust the way the clock face appears.

And so far the main features that Google intends to introduce or is deploying, as the case may be, for Android, Chrome, Wear OS and its powerful ecosystem of services, which has proven its worth for years, although with the well-known price of doubts in around the privacy offered.
