Google brings a welcome novelty to the interface

Google is gradually updating Android Auto. By installing version 10.0, users will be able to see a different Google Assistant integration. The latter has a much more current interface and especially in phase with that of smartphones. This change is part of a complete overhaul of the Android Auto interface initiated in early 2023.

Android-Auto

Android Auto is one of major Google projects for 2023. The operating system has been the subject of a complete presentation at the Google I/O conference which took place last May. The goal of the Mountain View company: to catch up on Apple, which has greatly improved the CarPlay experience in recent years, while Android Auto was the subject of some obscure ergonomic experiments. During the Google keynote, the tone is no longer testing, but implementation.

Before the end of 2023, Google has promised to deploy a brand new interface based on simultaneous display of applications the most important for the driver. Navigation. The messages. Favorite contacts. The music. Etc. YouTube will also arrive on compatible infotainment systems, without forgetting Waze. It’s an experience that is much closer to what the firm offers with Android on smartphones.

Google changes the design of Assistant in Android Auto

We want proof of this in a novelty discovered by our colleagues from 9to5Google. The Mountain View company has started the deployment of the version 10.0 of the operating system. This includes an ergonomic change for Assistant. Previously, the Assistant window was a black bar with the Assistant logo to the left. This bar displayed your voice instructions. If the instructions remain, the logo disappears to make way for ” glow », the multicolored and luminous effect that appears on Android when you use Assistant.

Even if this change seems trivial, we are interested in it for three reasons. First, it shows that Google has stopped experimenting on the Assistant interface. It’s clearly better that way. Then, it confirms the schedule announced by Google in the spring. Finally, it suggests a future homogenization between the different versions of Android (smartphone, television, car). A homogenization that will inevitably affect applications one day. Remember also that games and videoconferencing applications are also expected on Android Auto before the end of 2023.
