Just yesterday we told you that Google Chrome remains the undisputed leader in the browser market, with shares of around 65% both on desktop and mobile devices. Google’s browser has a legion of users and defenders, although it is true that there are also its detractors, who put forward some really convincing reasons to recommend to the rest of the world that they make the leap to other browsers. For their part, its defenders argue, not without reason, its good integration with Google services.
The browser is, today, one of the most important applications for the vast majority of users, since in the exchange of software for services it has become the gateway to many of the activities that we carry out daily in front of the Internet. pc. Search for information and update ourselves, review our photos, edit our documents… the list is endless and the trend is upward, and this is the reason why companies are so interested in getting users to opt for their browser instead of to those of the competition.
Now, not even the largest of companies have infinite resources to maintain and update their software, and in this regard, Google Chrome is no exception, and even more so if we talk about platforms that no longer have the support of their creators. Something that, as you already know, is the case of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, two versions of the Microsoft operating system whose official life cycle has already ended, but which are still used by a significant number of users, a 2.59 % in the case of 8.1 and a surprising 11.18% if we talk about Windows 7.
Thus, as we already told you a few months ago and as we can confirm in Mashable, this 13.77% of Windows users will also have to say goodbye to being able to update Google Chrome from Februarysince version 110 will only be compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11. In this way, Google ends support for Windows 7 and 8.1, something that actually wanted to do for a long time, but has been postponed several times. occasions until reaching this last term.
This, of course, does not mean that users of Google Chrome on those operating systems can no longer use the browser, which is why I have used quotes in the title of this news. They will still be able to do it… but without support, that is, they will not be able to update it, with all the security problems that this entails. Thus, our recommendation for all of them is that they either look for a browser that does continue to offer support for their version of Windows, something that is increasingly difficult given its age, or that they assume that it is time to jump to one latest version of Microsoft’s operating system, if they want to continue using Google Chrome safely.
