Thanks to services such as Google Drive, cloud storage has become one of the most convenient and fastest ways to share files, ensure access to them from any device and at any time, create backup copies of what We neither can nor want to lose… sometimes I think that we place too much trust in this type of service, although the truth is that its usefulness is beyond any doubt.
I say that sometimes we are overconfident by remembering, for example, the problems experienced by Andrew Spinks. CEO of Re-Logic and co-creator of the sensational indie game Terraria, which suddenly saw Google suspend several personal and professional studio accounts. In that case, thanks to public pressure and the arrival of Terraria to Google Stadia was seriously threatenedFinally, the situation was resolved satisfactorily, but it is easy to imagine the terrible effects of such a blackout, and even more so if the situation is not finally resolved.
This, however, is not common. the vast majority of Google Drive users have and maintain access to their files without problems, and it is tremendously rare that Google cancels an account if it is not because there has been a breach of the rules of service with it. To avoid this problem, just like any other service, the company promptly informs about what can be done, what the limits are, and what actions can lead to the blocking of the account or the limitation of its functions.
So, we agree that it is necessary to comply with the rules and respect the limits, but according to what we can read in Ars technica, it seems that Google has not fully informed about them. Specifically, and although this is not indicated in the conditions of service, Google Drive has a limit of five million files per accountwhich includes both the free ones, which can be understood, as well as those of Google Workspace, that is, the paid ones.
For ordinary mortals, five million files may seem like a lot, but there are multiple cases where that number is more achievable than we may think. Thus, and according to said medium, for a few weeks users (or at least part of them) who stored more than five million files have begun to receive messages indicating that they cannot create-upload more files until they do not bring your account below that limit again.
At the moment there is no official communication from the company about this new Google Drive limit, although some users affirm that, in a “private” way, company technical support workers have confirmed that it is not a bug, but a a limit that Google wants to impose on the service.
