Next Wednesday, May 10, the highly anticipated Google I/O 2023 will kick off, an event aimed mainly at developers, but which is used by Google to make some of the most important announcements of the year. This model is similar to the one used by Apple with its WWDC and, in truth, it makes these events much more important, at a public level, than they would be if they were limited to traditional talks, sessions, presentations and workshops for programmers.
As a general rule, there are two main points that attract common users to the Google I/O each year. On the one hand, we findThe official presentation of the Android version corresponding to said yearand on the other, it is usually the date chosen by Google to present some of your devices, especially those of the Pixel family. And, since it is already fully normalized in this sector, the most common thing is that rumors and leaks have already told us what we can expect.
This Google I/O 2023 is no exception in this regard, so we already have a fairly reliable list of what they have in store for us this year. And, in addition to the Android version and the devices, there is the enormous expectation generated by the expected announcements related to artificial intelligence, an area in which the company has not yet given its chest, despite the fact that its relationship with it goes back a long way. Thus, this could be the most interesting Google I/O in recent years. Let’s see, then, what we expect from it.
Android 14
One of the most anticipated announcements, although also one of the fewest surprises in store for us, is Android 14, this year’s version of Google’s mobile operating system. And I say that it will not bring many surprises because, as you know, it has been months since the company began to release the first previews of it for developers, so part of its novelties are already known. However, we can count on the company having saved a surprise for this Google I/O 2023, like perhaps the Bard widget. For the rest, this new version does not aim to be particularly remarkable in terms of news.
Google Pixel Fold
We continue with the announcements that we know for sure will happen, and the second is the highly anticipated debut of the Google Pixel Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone. This is a project that they have been working on for years, and on some occasions it has even ended up stored in a drawer, waiting for its time to come. The recent leaks had already made us think that it had finally arrived, and finally this week the company has decided to make it official, although it has summoned us to Google I/O 2023 to find out everything about this new device.
bard and artificial intelligence
2023 is undoubtedly the year of artificial intelligence. 2022 already told us that it was going to be like this but, even counting on it, this current year is turning out to be surprising, to the point that it has even caught more than one technology company with a different pace. Such has been the case of Google, which has seen how, despite its long-standing relationship with the technology underlying AI, it has been well advanced in its implementation in solutions for end users.
This being the case, we hope that this Google I/O 2023 will make an important difference in this regard. The company itself has already anticipated that there will be many announcements related to artificial intelligence at this event, and probably the most anticipated (although not yet confirmed, of course) is a substantial increase in the scope of Bard and AI tools for Gmail, Docs and so on. However, and given the caution with which the company is acting (something that is appreciated), we cannot take anything for granted.
Google Pixel 7a
There have been plenty of leaks about the long-awaited Google Pixel 7a, a device that sits either at the top of the mid-range or at the entry point of the high-end, depending on your preferred interpretation of the market. Based on the specifications that have been leaked (that is, in the absence of official confirmation), it promises to be one of Google’s most interesting proposals in the field of smartphones, with a more than remarkable value for money. And as it has been a tradition, we hope that its benefits are important, but that the company once again puts the focus on the photographic section.
Google PixelTablet
The Google Pixel Tablet was first unveiled at Google I/O last year and then again at the Pixel 7 launch in October, so we can finally look forward to its arrival on the market finally coming to fruition. on this occasion. It is expected to feature an 11-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 1,600 x 2,560 dots, Tensor G2 SoC, and premium design. In addition, it will come with a charging base for speakers that turns the tablet into a Nest Hub-style device, which substantially increases its versatility.
other announcements
We have reviewed what we hope will be the main announcements, that is, those whose arrival on the market is going to take place in the short term. However, we can also expect that this Google I/O 2023 will give us a first look at its next generation of smartphones, the Google Pixel 8, the future Pixel Watch 2 and the new Pixel Buds headphones. Thus, as you can see, if all these announcements finally take place, a most interesting event awaits us without a doubt.
