Google has just unveiled this Wednesday, July 27, 2022 on his official blog a first preview of the “photorealistic aerial views” which will soon be accessible in nearly 100 locations on Google Maps.

According to the manufacturer, these shots, which recall in particular the Flyover function of Apple Maps, will allow you to admire aerial views of several famous cities such as Barcelona, London, New York, San Francisco or Tokyo. Note that the deployment of these aerial views has already begun on Maps Android and iOS apps.

A 1st step before the arrival of Immersive View

As the Mountain View company reminds us, this is the first step in the launch of Immersive View, an experience unveiled at Google I/O 2022 which “combines artificial intelligence with billions of high-definition Street View, satellite and aerial images”.

As a reminder, Immersive View will not allow you to fly over major cities. It will also be possible to visit landmarks and iconic places like indoor museums. Once again, the cities of Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo will be the first cities to come to life virtually via Immersive View by the end of 2022.

More options for cycling routes

In addition, Google also announces the arrival of some additional features on Maps. In the first place, there are several improvements for the routes dedicated to cyclists. Indeed, you will now be able to know if your route includes, for example, stairs or steep slopes, or if the traffic is expected to be heavy, for example.

In addition, and if you are used to cycling with a friend, you will be able to receive a notification when he has arrived at the meeting point, provided that he has shared his geographical position with you. Note that Apple Plans will also offer optimized routes for e-bikes and for traditional bikes. As a reminder, Google Maps will soon integrate routes dedicated to electric cars.
