Google Pixel 7: the first smartphone with Android 13 already certified several months before its release

The next Pixel 7 and 7 Pro are not expected before the end of the year, but the smartphones have already been spotted with a certification body: the FCC. The launch could therefore be fast approaching.

Pixel 7 Pro

Google usually unveils its new high-end smartphones at the end of the year, around June. However, it could well be that the new generation Pixel 7 and 7 Pro arrive a little faster, given that smartphones have already been certified by the FCC. As we reported yesterday, the Pixel 6a was spotted in FCC listings with its model number GX7AS, but it was accompanied by three other devices.

Indeed, Google has also certified three other models, which are named GB17L, GB62Z and G1AZG. These model numbers appear to belong to Pixel 7. However, we don’t really know if the series will be available in three different models, one of which could be reserved for another market. We could also be dealing with the Pixel 7, 7 Pro and even a 7a model that won’t arrive until 2023.

The Pixel 7 would be launched at the end of the year

Although the Pixel 7 has already been certified, the smartphone is not expected to arrive before the end of the year. Indeed, Google must first launch its Pixel 6a, and should therefore not announce its new series for at least several months. The American giant will also first have to present the new version of its operating system: Android 13. It is the Pixel 7 which should be the first smartphone to use it.

In the meantime, we already know a lot about the new generation of high-end smartphones from Google. The OnLeaks leaker, for example, has already shared renderings of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. The latter unsurprisingly inherit the design of the Pixel 6, but the classic model sees its screen increase to 6.3 inches, against 6.4 inches for the Pixel 6.

Finally, we know that the Pixel 7 should recycle the camera of the Pixel 6. We would therefore always find the same 50 MP Samsung GN1 main sensor with a 12 MP wide-angle sensor, and a third 48 MP sensor for the Pixel 7 Pro. Failing to change its hardware, Google should make improvements to the software part to capture better shots.
