Google steps on the accelerator in artificial intelligence

I know, saying that Google steps on the accelerator in artificial intelligence can be interpreted in terms that the search engine company has been taking it very calmly until now, so the first thing is to clarify that this is not the case. In fact, the presence of AI in technology products and services is more than evident. From its specific solutions for this purpose such as TensorFlow, to the photographic post-processing functions that we can find in the Google Pixel, artificial intelligence has been a priority for quite some time for Google.

However, and for the general public, there are other services that are being made with popularity and, hand in hand with it, with the preference of all potential customers. Examples such as GPT 3 or the most recent ChatGPT in regards to text, DALL-E 2, Stable diffusion and Midjourney in the creation of images and many other examples in many other areas, have caused Google’s visibility in this field to be quite less than they would like.

This is a problem precisely because of what I indicated in the previous paragraph: other technology companies are making a name for themselves in the artificial intelligence market, a market in which we can expect exponential growth in the short and medium term, and although being the First to have arrived is not a guarantee of anything, it does provide a plus of prestige that can be key when choosing between contracting one service or another.

It seems, however, that with ChatGPT the alarm bells have been turned on in the Google offices. As we can read in 9to5Google Google has reassigned members of multiple company teams to work on AI projects. A movement that would have been launched by the CEO of the company himself, Sundar Pichai, and with which he intends to present, in the short and medium term, new services and projects based on AI.

«Between now and a major conference expected to be hosted by Google in May, teams within Google’s research, trust and security departments, and other departments have been redeployed to help develop and launch new AI prototypes and products.»

The conference, given the date indicated, we can assume that it will be Google I / O 2023, since the annual meeting for Google developers always takes place between May and June, and given the nature of this change in strategy, it seems the ideal context for a presentation in which AI stands out above all else.
