Google updated the Chrome logo for the first time in years

In the very case, if you recently downloaded the latest currently available version of Canary for the Google Chrome browser, then you may have already noticed that the browser icon has changed. The change marks the first time in eight years that the respective tech giant has redesigned the symbol representing its iconic web browser. And at first glance, the new icon is not so different from the old one.

However, there is actually more to the update than you might think at first glance. Going into more detail, in a Twitter discussion spotted by The Verge authoritative publication, Alvin Hu, a Google designer, decided in some detail to describe “the thought process that just formed the basis of the redesign.” So if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that Google’s designers have removed the shadows that were part of the icon until now, opting for a flatter design instead, in line with the company’s other products.

Moreover, the company also decided to change the proportions of the symbol, making the individual colors that make it up a little more vibrant. But the most “impressive” change made by the company is precisely the addition of subtle gradients to the green and red segments of the icon. Regarding this, Alvin Hu says that the company has found that certain shades of these two colors end up creating “unpleasant color vibrations every time they are placed next to each other.” In any case, the result of the change, based on the idea described above, was an icon that became, according to Google, “more accessible”.

Be that as it may, it should be noted that, depending on which device you use the Chrome browser on, you will see additional, more subtle changes. This is because, according to Alvin Hu, Google designers have spent time tweaking the icon to make it more user-friendly for every operating system where you can download Chrome. For example, on macOS, the symbol will look more three-dimensional, while iOS will have its own special version of the icon associated with the current beta software. And by the way, Alvin Hu claims that you and I will be able to see the updated icon within the next few months on absolutely every device and supported operating system.
