Google wants to replace Doctolib with this new health feature

Google aims to replace Doctolib, as evidenced by the presentation of a brand new feature dedicated to health. Deployed soon in the United States only, it will be possible from the search results to easily consult the appointments available with a practitioner, and to reserve a slot in a few clicks.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, the popularity of the Doctolib service exploded in France and in many countries. Proof of this is that, at the end of the speech given by Emmanuel Macron in July 2021, no less than 900,000 French people jumped on Doctolib to make an appointment to be vaccinated.

Obviously, Google is jealous of this success and intends to dethrone the number one service dedicated to health. This Friday, March 25, 2022, the Mountain View firm unveiled during its new Google Health a new feature to come on its search engine. Simply put, it will allow users to easily find an appointment from the search results with a practitioner in their area and reserve a time slot, all in just a few clicks.

The Californian group illustrates this functionality with the San Francisco MinuteClinic, which offers services related to vaccination against Covid-19, but also to general medicine or even dermatology. Each theme has its own tab in the search results, and displays available appointment slots.

Google wants to make it easier to book appointments in its search engine

By clicking on a date, the user is redirected to a third-party site to finalize his appointment. Note that Google did not take this example by chance, the clinic in question being part of CVS Health, the largest pharmaceutical group in the United States, and by extension a partner of the Californian giant.

Eventually, Google obviously aims to offer this feature in other countries. “We hope to expand features, functionality and our network of partners to make it easier for people to get the care they need.” explains the firm. In addition, the group also announced the arrival of Health YouTube video information panels in Japan, Brazil and India, the aim being “to identify videos from authoritative sources”.
