Google will hold an event on February 8, artificial intelligence in sight?

When talking about Google events, everyone tends to think of the traditional Google I / O, dedicated mainly to developers but also has very interesting announcements for the general public. On occasion they have also held an additional presentation but, unlike other technology companies that have a tighter schedule in this regard, those of the search engine do not usually lavish themselves on events of this type.

Thus, when they schedule an event we can already assume that the announcements of it will be quite important. And in this case even more, since it seems that these will focus on some of the most used services of the company, such as the search engine and the maps, perhaps the two most used worldwide. In other words, two services in which any change can be most relevant to hundreds of millions of people and, therefore, something worth paying close attention to.

The event, dubbed Live from Paris, will take place on Wednesday, February 8 at 2:30 p.m. CET (Spanish peninsular time, 1:30 p.m. in the Canary Islands) and will be held in Paris, although given the short time with which it has been announced, it seems that it will be an exclusively online event. The choice of Paris may simply respond to the fascination that the French capital has had for Americans for decades, or perhaps to the fact that at least some of the advertisements are exclusively or mainly related to Europe. The Google event can be seen, how could it be otherwise, from the official Google channel on YouTube.

And what is Google going to announce next Wednesday? Officially, the search engine company has not said anything about it, but just yesterday Sundar Pichai, CEO of the company, participated in a presentation of economic results and, as usually happens in this type of event, in addition to numbers, there was also talk of plans for future, among which Pichai focused on the implementation of a chatbot based on artificial intelligenceno doubt in response to ChatGPT and especially Microsoft’s plans to integrate it with Bing.

«We will make these language models available, starting with LaMDA [Language Model for Dialogue Applications, una familia de modelos de lenguaje neuronal conversacional desarrollado por Google]so that people can interact directly with them in the coming weeks and months«, he stated in said meeting, and that he talks about its implementation in a matter of weeks, invites us to think that the plans have been advanced. And it is that we already told you that the original intention was to present these novelties at Google I/O 2023, but some sources indicate that the proposal from Microsoft and OpenAI is already quite advanced and that, consequently, Google cannot afford to wait until May.

Thus, and although nothing is certain, it is possible that as soon as next week we will be able to see, for the first time, a chatbot integrated into a web browser and, in turn, it is quite likely that this will lead Microsoft to step even further. the throttle on their own plans. Therefore, it seems that a spring awaits us in which Information searches on the Internet will begin to change radicallywith all the good and bad that this implies.
