Google will let users of old free G Suite accounts migrate them to Gmail accounts

Just a couple of weeks ago, the old free G Suite account users they discovered, so to speak, that they would soon be out of the bargain of using free Google Workspace accounts that used the free edition of G Suite just by paying for their domain name. They still have a few months to upgrade to a paid Google Workspace subscription before their accounts were no longer suspended, but as expected, there are not a few users who have not been amused by Google’s move.

Until the announcement, they had the possibility of using G Suite with a custom domain for email, but using Gmail as a platform and interface to manage mail. But before the announcement of those from Mountain View, they ran out of options to continue doing it for free. Those affected did not take long to flood the company’s support service with complaints, which were also aired on sites such as Hacker News, and Google has decided to give them a third option, as published on its support website.

Thus, over the next few months, Google is going to offer an option for those who don’t want to switch to a paid Google Workspace option and move most of your data to a free option. Of course, this option will not offer functions such as personalized mail or multi-account management. Users of an old G Suite account will have the opportunity to consider whether to opt for this new option until July 1, 2022, before their accounts go into suspension.

For now it is all the information that Google has provided about this possibility of continuing to have a free option, although with fewer options than the current ones. We will have to wait to see if with this option they have the possibility of continuing to use them for the calendar, the contact list and even, as some users have done, with YouTube, Google Maps, Google Drive or Google Play. What is clear is that they will not be able to continue using mail with a personalized domain name. They will need to find another mail provider or use a different address, probably with the gmail.com domain.
