The film adaptation of Gran Turismo, the famous car simulation and Playstation exclusive, will land in cinemas from August 2023. In any case, this is what our colleagues from the Deadline site assure us.
We have new information on the cinematic adaptation of Gran Turismo. Indeed, Polyphony Digital’s famous car simulation license will soon be transposed to the big screen.
However, our colleagues from the American site Deadline have just obtained more information about it. According to their sources, we will find behind the camera a renowned directornamely New Zealand Neil Blompkamp. The filmmaker has made a name for himself among science fiction fans, notably with his first feature film, the excellent District 9. These other films, namely Elyseum and Chappy, did not equal the mastery of the 1st, but nevertheless confirmed the skill of the director.
Gran Turismo hits theaters August 2023
Other important information, the release of the film Gran Turismo in dark rooms would be planned August 11, 2023. Obviously, the scenario would be inspired by a true story. To put it simply, we would follow a particularly talented young Gran Turismo player, who, thanks to his good results, would obtain a place to participate in a real Nissan competition and become a professional pilot.
In other words, the film would be directly inspired by the story of several players who have taken part in the GT Academywhich allowed top pro Gran Turismo players to compete for a spot on a real-life Nissan-sponsored racing team. Note that we have however no new information on the cast.
Sony is working on many adaptations
As a reminder, the film adaptation of Gran Turismo is part of Sony’s vast project to transpose its most popular licenses to the small and big screen. Indeed, the Japanese manufacturer has several adaptations in progress, some more advanced than others. For example, we already know a lot about the HBO series The Last of Us, which should land in 2023.
A series adapted from the Horizon universe, the saga of Guerrilla Games, is also in preparation at Netflix. In addition, we also know that the excellent Ghost of Tsushima would be adapted to the cinema by Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick saga. Enough to promise brutal and perfectly choreographed fights.
