GTA VI will offer a very careful story mode, according to Take-Two

A few days ago Rockstar confirmed that GTA VI had been in development for some time, but at the same time it showed, between the lines, that it was not yet advanced enough to be seen. It’s a shame, since this is, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated games, but at the same time it has a positive side, and that is that GTA VI could become one of the most important exclusives of the new generation.

During the last months we have also been seeing numerous rumors and information that left us some possible keys to said title. In this sense, one of the most interesting was, in my opinion, the possible reduction of the weight of the story mode in favor of the online mode, something that made sense considering the income that the online mode of GTA V had given to Rockstar (developer) and Take-Two (publisher).

However, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, has made a very interesting comment at the company’s latest earnings event that totally collides with that possible reduction of the story mode. Let’s see it, and then analyze it:

“There was a time when single player was considered dead by some of our competitors. We never take that position. We know that this mode still has its role, and that it will continue to do so in the future. Rockstar is known for telling stories. And yes, she is also known for those fantastic experiences she creates with open worlds. Both keys work fine, and online mode too«.

Take-Two will not limit GTA VI, and has reasons for it

That is, basically, what we can get clear from the words of the CEO of Take-Two, and they point in a very clear direction: GTA VI will have a first-rate multiplayer mode, and also a careful and well-defined online version. Seeing how well GTA V has sold, and the huge revenue GTA Online is generating, it’s only natural that both Rockstar and Take-Two go take care of both aspects in the next installment of the franchise.

If you were afraid of a possible reduction, simplification or loss of quality of the single player mode of GTA VI, I think that you can stay calm. The rumors that we saw have stopped making sense, and everything indicates that said title will offer a fantastic experience in both modes. Unfortunately, we still don’t have a release date, but as I’ve said before, I’d bet on 2023 or 2024 as the filing date.

Regarding the issue of exclusivity for new generation consoles, the truth is that I still have doubts, especially because PS4 and Xbox One market share is going to remain huge for years to come, and giving up a version for the old generation would be equivalent to sacrificing a significant amount of income. We will see what happens, although personally I am clear that the best thing would be a new generation GTA VI, since an intergenerational version would be seriously hampered at a technical level.
