The stop-motion film, which will immerse us in Mussolini’s Italy, should land next December on Netflix.
Disney never stops recycling its successes of yesteryear. Over the next few years, viewers will be able to experience live-action adaptations of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The little Mermaid and The Aristocats. A dynamic that is already beginning to tire the spectators, who do not really appreciate seeing the classics of their childhood revisited for profit. The giant will also be interested in Pinocchio. Robert Zemeckis will direct a live action adaptation of the adventures of the little wooden puppet, with Tom Hanks and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the roles of Geppetto and Jiminy Cricket.
On the sidelines of this umpteenth adaptation, Netflix is also preparing a rereading of Carlo Collodi’s tale. Guillermo Del Toro will be at the helm of this new stop-motion feature film. The director, who has just unveiled his revisit of Nightmare Alley, signs here a new collaboration with the platform, after having produced and written the series Troll Hunters.

Quite rare in the history of the platform, Netflix has already unveiled a release date for this new production. We therefore know that the feature film will land on our screens in December 2022. Obviously, it will be the great end-of-year production of the Reed Hastings firm. With this announcement, Netflix has shared some rather encouraging first images.
The opportunity also to discover the performance of Ewan McGregor, who will lend his voice to Jiminy Cricket. He will give the reply to David Bradley (Filch in the saga Harry Potter) in the skin of Gepetto. Tilda Swinton (Moonrise Kingdom), Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) are also announced at the casting. Cate Blanchett, who also stars in Nightmare Alley, should also embody one of the protagonists. His role is currently kept secret. We can also rejoice in the return of Alexandre Desplat. After The Shape of Water, the composer will sign the score of this new production. As a reminder, Nathan Johnson was recruited for the original music of Nightmare Alley.
It will be a rereading of the plot since it should plunge us into Mussolini’s Italy, in the midst of the rise of fascism, where the original story takes place at the end of the 19th century. A story of love and disobedience that will depict the struggle of its hero to comply with the demands of his father.
