HarmonyOS: Huawei denies the arrival of its alternative to Android in Europe

HarmonyOS will not arrive in Europe in the course of 2022. Several months after contradictory statements from a manager, Huawei has denied the deployment of its alternative to Android on smartphones sold outside China.

Cornered by US sanctions against it, Huawei found itself deprived of an Android license in 2019. Prohibited from preinstalling Google apps on its smartphones, the Chinese giant has registered a dramatic collapse in sales. To save the furniture, Huawei has developed an alternative operating system based on Android’s open source code: HarmonyOS.

Last year, the manufacturer, once on the way to dethroning Samsung on the world market, offered its mobile OS to its Chinese users, who remained loyal despite its troubles with the United States. More than 100 million smartphones in China have been able to install HarmonyOS. After the success of its alternative in its native country, it was expected that Huawei would soon roll out HarmonyOS internationally, especially in Europe, where its sales are in free fall.

Huawei refuses to launch HarmonyOS on its smartphones in Europe for the moment

Unfortunately, Huawei does not plan to launch its alternative to Android on its smartphones outside of China for the moment. In a press release addressed to our colleagues from Huawei Central, the Chinese giant denied the arrival of its interface in the rest of the world.

“Currently, smartphones outside of China are not expected to upgrade to HarmonyOS, but users can also enjoy HarmonyOS 2 and its groundbreaking user experience on recently launched Huawei tablets, Huawei Vision, and watches. connected”, says a spokesperson. For now, the OS remains confined to other products of the brand.

Since 2019, Huawei blows hot and cold on the future of HarmonyOS and its relationship with Android. Last December, Derek Yu, president of Huawei for Europe, had however aannounced the deployment of the interface in Europe during 2022. “For users in Europe, next year we will introduce HarmonyOS”, announced the manager during an interview with a Romanian media.
