Computer

Have you been told that you can improve the sound quality of your PC for free?

If we use the computer to play games, watch series or movies, and even listen to music, one of the most important things we look for is that the sound works well. Initially, Windows only asks us to connect the speakers, or headphones, and it will take care of processing the sound and output it for it. However, this sound may not be as clear and sharp as you would expect. What’s going on?

Windows is set by default to extract the audio without any type of processing or amplification. This seeks to avoid conflicts between sound cards and try to make the user hear the audio in the purest possible way. However, this almost always translates into poor sound quality, especially when the volume of the speakers is rather low.

Fortunately, there are ways to improve it. And, best of all, without having to spend a single euro. Of course, we must bear in mind that we cannot do magic either, and we are not going to make two-euro speakers sound like a sound system costing hundreds of euros. But we will get a slight improvement that will make us enjoy the sound of the PC much more.

Turn on Windows audio enhancements

The first thing we can do to improve the sound quality of Windows is turn on sound enhancements offered by the operating system. To do this, what we will do is open the Windows Configuration menu, and go to the System> Sound section. We select there the sound card that we have in our PC (either internal or external), and in its properties we will find a section from which we can activate or deactivate these sound improvements of the operating system.

Windows 11 audio improvements

If we want, we can also take advantage of the fact that we are here and activate, especially if we use good headphones, one of the spatial audio algorithms, be it Windows Sonic, if we opt for the free version, or Dolby Atmos if we pay the corresponding license. In this way we can not only improve the sound quality, but also have surround effects.

set up an equalizer

If the above has not given us much improvement, we can also try to improve the sound quality of the system using an equalizer. Some programs, such as music and movie players, have their own equalizers, which we can use to adjust the bass, middle, and treble levels to our liking.

Spotify Equalizer

When we use these native program equalizers, the changes only affect the program as such, not the rest of the software or games that we run on the PC. In case you want to apply these improvements to the entire system, what we have to do is use an equalizer like FXSound.

fxsound

This program, which we can download and use completely free of charge, allows us to configure a sound equalizer that is applied to the entire operating system. In this way, the changes we make to the sound will be applied equally to all programs and games, enjoying a significant improvement in sound quality without having to invest a single euro in a new sound system for the PC.
