Have you bought a Steam Deck recently?

As we already told you a few days ago, Valve is celebrating a spring sale for the first time and, to celebrate the first year of the Steam Deck, for the first time in the history of its portable console. is offering it with a 10% discount on its normal price. As we already told you then, from the beginning of these sales and until Thursday the 23rd you can get a Deck for the following prices:

  • 64 gigabyte model: its price drops from €419.00 to €377.10. You will be saving 41.90 euros.
  • 256 gigabyte model: its price drops from €549.00 to €494.10. You will be saving 54.90 euros.
  • 512 gigabyte model: its price drops from €679.00 to €611.10. You will be saving 67.90 euros.

Thus, as you can see, what you save on the console you can invest in getting a new title for your collection, something for which these sales are also the right time. Without a doubt, Valve has known how to play the trick of the first year of the Steam Deck quite well, which, let us remember, was announced in July 2021 and which would initially begin to be delivered at the end of that same year, but which finally saw said date delayed until March. of 2022.

At first, the delivery of the consoles had a period of months from the date of purchase, but in July of last year there was a significant cut in the deadlines and, finally, in October of last year the waiting was over, since Valve started to deliver them within a period of weeks, compared to the months that had to wait previously. Since then, and although the company reserves the possibility of increasing delivery times if demand peaks occur, getting a Steam Deck is something quite fast.

The sales began last Wednesday, which surely left all those people who had just bought it a few days before with a crooked face, since they missed the offer for a matter of days, or maybe even just hours. It is what the sales have, of course, that they arrive when they arrive, sometimes without prior notice. However, it seems that quite a few users have been upset about it and, surprisingly, Valve has decided to give in to their pressure.

In the last hours some messages have been published on Reddit, like this one, from Users who bought a Steam Deck shortly before the Spring Sale complained to Valve and got store credit. According to sources, the amount offered varies, although in most cases they are amounts close to that 10% discount on the price of the consoles.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about this situation. It is true that buying something and having its price reduced a few days or hours later is, without a doubt, a nuisance, and I will not deny that in those cases I would have liked to obtain some type of compensation like the one provided by Valve to these people. However, is it really fair? I don’t think so. Temporality, and in many cases surprise, is imprinted in the DNA of sales and special offers. This sets a strange precedent that I doubt will continue in the future, but the truth is that you never know.
