heads and tails of a business at the gates of maturity in Spain » MuyCanal

We cannot say that we have not spent time talking about cloud in all its formats, but neither can we say that it is a fully mature business in Spain. Even so, we are getting closer to consolidating this trend and making it a full reality in companies. A point where providers are performing key work.

The offer of technology providers around the cloud is increasingly solid and unanimous. There are already few that have not included some cloud options in their portfolio and in just 2 years it is expected that 90% of partners will sell some cloud service. A path traveled where some are already very advanced and others are simply looking at an opportunity that grows without stopping.

The approach of the providers is very varied. From the private cloud, public cloud or hybrid to models where a single provider or several are involved to host the multicloud. The business segment from which it attacks is also very disparate; We talk about infrastructure, software, business management or cybersecurity, among the best known. Finally, the proposals can be segmented by verticals or types of services to offer more personalized services.

The cloud offer of providers is becoming more solid every day

And this penetration of the cloud is also seen in the customer response and demand in Spain. In fact, a Penteo study, conducted in collaboration with Syntax, reveals that 34% of business processes run in the cloud. A percentage that is still low but that is advancing compared to 2019 when they were only 28%. In addition, 67% of the companies consulted confirm that they already execute more than 20% of their processes in the cloud, which reaffirms the strong traction in the market.

Alex Morales, Senior Analyst at Penteo, explains that there are clear signs of maturity «both from the point of view of supply with solid products, services and companies, as well as from the point of view of the demand that understands the real value of technology, its purpose and knows how to apply it appropriately to their needs».

So much so that IDC Research Spain expects that 70% of organizations will include multicloud as part of managed services in the cloud to guarantee quality of service next year. A cloud that will bring with it disruptive models and the long-awaited digital transformation that all companies are obliged to pursue.

Today, speaking of multicloud environments, more than a third of IT decision makers operate in a multicloud framework. A number expected to top 60% within three years, a Vanson Bourne survey shows.

Benefits, but also doubts and problems

Companies are clear that the cloud has many benefits. In the Penteo study, the advantages of the cloud stand out, such as the flexibility to adapt to business requirements and costs or in terms of continuity and resilience. Some values that have been propagated in different verticals and business segments, accrediting the value of the cloud in all its formats.

However, the cloud is useless without a clear strategy. And there is still a lot of ground to cover. The same study by the consulting firm Penteo indicates that 29% of companies do not have a defined cloud strategy. A percentage that, added to the entities that still do not use the cloud as an instrument for business advancement and renewal, alerts us to the real situation of this business.

In the case of multi-cloud, one of the great obstacles to efficient implementation is interoperability. Clouds remain segmented, leaving enterprises with few resources to better navigate this complexity. In this situation, many companies aspire to choose a main supplier and integrate it in such a way that with only one they achieve the desired effectiveness and cost savings.

In this sense, the multicloud throws old “acquaintances” as problems within the cloud world. Security, the integration of data from different sources and platforms or the possible cost overruns derived from past investments or poor management in cloud administration that leads to deduplication.

It is not the only environment where there are problems. In the case of the public cloud, many companies still see an insecure environment that can put their organization’s data at risk. In this sense, Keepler proposes 4 techniques that include adopting Zero Trust models, reducing the risk of exposure with data de-identification, having a data-lake and establishing data governance measures.

Behind all this, a specialized provider

Behind the vast majority of problems generated by the cloud is a bad strategy. The basis for the success of any project in the cloud is directly related to proper planning that thinks about yesterday, now and, of course, the future.

To do this, companies must think of adopting the cloud as one more part of their business strategy. A fundamental issue where they must be accompanied by specialized partners that they see the project as a whole within a planning. Without that global vision, the opportunities to improve and make the cloud one more asset of the company can slip away.

Cloud providers are required experience, knowledge and technical capabilities

Among the attributes that companies usually look at when choosing the right provider, the Penteo study mentions experience, knowledge and technical capabilities. This leads partners to have a high level of knowledge with certifications of hyperscalars, of their own infrastructures if they have them, and of their services.

In addition, solvency must be transferred to the entire catalog of services (Definition of strategy and roadmap; Infrastructure migration projects; Application migration projects; Operation and maintenance).

However, it is not necessary to stick only to what customers claim but also go one step further. This implies adding to these characteristics the advisory capacity to evaluate cloud projects in a comprehensive way with services and advice. With this we will be a little closer to being a mature cloud provider prepared for the business that is already here.
