Sennheiser’s reputation is well established in the audio world, whether in the consumer segment or in the audiophile segment. It is to this second category that the IE 600 belong, new audiophile in-ear headphones with a resolutely high-end construction.
These IE 600s are directly in line with the IE 900s, other audiophile headphones that are part of the absolute references in this segment. As with the latter, the German brand did not wish to make any concessions in terms of sound quality; so this is a new of a wired model. However, this new model has several remarkable differences, particularly in terms of materials.
A 3D printed zirconium shell
The shell is indeed 3D printed from a rather unusual metal in this context: zirconium. Traditionally, it occupies an important place in heavy industry. It is used in particular for the production of specialized alloys and the manufacture of complex objects such as heat exchangers.
By using it in these headsets, Sennheiser wanted to exploit its particular properties. It is indeed a relatively malleable metal, but also very resistant for such a light metal. It is also extremely resistant to corrosion. It is therefore a material of choice to serve as a support for a resistant and durable product.
Unfortunately, apart from this quality of finish which promises to be exceptional, we only have a few meager details on these headphones. We only know that they will be entitled to a 3.5 or 4.4mm connector and that they will be equipped with a 7mm TruResponse transducer as well as a double chamber intended to reduce distortion. The brand claims that this element will contribute to the neutrality of the sound; a point which has always been an integral part of the brand’s identity, and which has contributed to its success in the context of professional audio monitoring.
intra palmost affordable, at least for audiophile equipment
As with all devices in this price range, all elements should be replaceable; after all, there is no question of risking the life of such an expensive device for a vulgar cable problem. In fact, it will cost 699 € to offer you this luxury item. A resolutely premium price that leaves no room for doubt: they are unquestionably intended for demanding audiophiles who are not afraid to put their hands in their wallets to satisfy their delicate eardrums.
A price that prohibits us de facto to talk about “affordable” or “cheap” headphones… but they are still significantly cheaper than many high-end audiophile models. Fans know it only too well: these machines can easily exceed the 1000 € mark, without even mentioning the additional equipment. Its predecessor, the IE 900, sells itself around 1300€.
Despite this tariff, which remains very high in absolute terms, it should therefore be a good intermediary with a very interesting price-quality ratio – all things considered, of course. The recognized experience of the German manufacturer allows in any case to have confidence at this level. However, it will be necessary to wait for the mid-June to find out whether or not these IE 600s deserve the Deutsch Qualität label!
