While the new series House of The Dragon has just been launched, HBO has already formalized the arrival of a season 2. Only one episode has so far been broadcast on the video on demand platform.
Today HBO announced that Ryan Condal and George RR Martin’s House of the Dragon series about Westeros’ infamous inbred dragon family has been renewed for a second season. This renewal follows the airing of the first episode on HBO and HBO Max last Sunday, and more recently on OCS in France.
This first episode was a real hit, as the series attracted nearly 10 million viewers upon its release, the highest audience for a new HBO original series. More than 20 million viewers had watched the first episode until Fridaythe company said in a press release.
House of the Dragon already has a season 2 before the premiere even ends
Even before the end of the first season, the Targaryen civil war has therefore already been officially extended. The series, which takes place about 200 years before the events seen in Game of Thrones will therefore be renewed for a second season, but HBO has yet to release any details about it.
Nonetheless, Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, said, “ We are extremely proud of what the entire House of the Dragon team has accomplished with the first season. Our phenomenal cast and crew rose to the challenge and exceeded all expectations, delivering a series that has already established itself as a must-watch show. Huge thanks to George, Ryan and Miguel for leading us on this trip. We couldn’t be more excited to continue bringing the epic saga of House Targaryen to life with Season 2. “.
As a reminder, the series is based on George RR Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, which chronicles the rise and fall of the Targaryens, the only dragon-owning family to survive the ruin of Valyria. We imagine the season will also be filled with bitter rivalries, jealousy, lust, dragons, the quest for power, and betrayals that will tear the Targaryens apart and threaten to destroy a dynasty that reigns supreme.
