How are songs shared on Apple Music?

If you’re new to Apple Music, today we’re going to show you how you can share songs with other people. We are also going to explain what is needed, both for who sends the song and for who receives it, as well as the different ways to do it. So if you want to get more out of this service, this post is for you.

You can share songs in various ways

Before we start to see how songs are shared, we are going to explain what is needed. If you’re the one sharing a song, you’ll need an active Apple Music subscription. You will not be able to share songs if you are not subscribedsince there is no way to activate the service using a free subscription plan, as there is with Spotify’s free plan.

However, the person who is going to receive the song does not necessarily have to have an active subscription to Apple Music. You do need it if you want to play the song you’ve sent. But if you are not subscribed, you can receive the song title (and link) and you can play it on another platform if you search for the specific name of this song. Once we know this, it’s time to see how the songs are shared.

Inside and outside the Apple ecosystem

Apple Music, as a good company service, offers very deep integration with other Apple products and services. The first way you can share songs is through the SharePlay function. This allows you to send a song to someone else who has an Apple product and an active Apple Music subscription. In this case, the two of you are going to listen to the same song, at the same time, through iMessage or FaceTime. So, if you want to make a video call with someone, then you are also going to listen to the same song. This feature is available on any device running iOS 15 or iPadOS 15.

The second way you can share a song on Apple Music is by sending the link. Here are two ways to do it. For one thing, you can share the song link outside of Apple Music. You can send the song via WhatsApp, email, copy link, etc. The other person who receives this link does not necessarily have to be subscribed to the service. It does need to be if you want to play the song on Apple Music. But if not, you can search the title of the song to listen to it on another platform.

Sharing the link of an Apple Music song is also possible thanks to AirDrop. In this case, you will not be sharing a text link as such. But if you send the song via AirDrop, it will be displayed directly in the Apple Music interface. It is important to note that, also in this case, whoever receives the song by AirDrop needs an active subscription to Apple Music. Otherwise, you won’t have access to the interface. As additional information, there is no established limit to be able to share songs. Also, this procedure is equally valid for music albums and playlists.
