How the hell did Viserys’s dagger get into Arya’s hands in Game of Thrones?

The first season of The House of the Dragon has once again reminded us all why we fell in love with the series Game of Thrones since its inception. With its story full of betrayals, script twists and, being a prequel, constant references to the original HBO series. However, there a easter egg that has left fans somewhat confused and whose story we are going to tell you right now.

How did that get there?

Before starting, it is worth remembering that let’s spoil in great detail Some key aspects of both The House of the Dragon like Game of Thronesso you are warned.

In the first episode of The House of the Dragonduring one of the final conversations between King Viserys I and his daughter Rhaenyra, we can see how he shows him an ancestral dagger that he has in his possession. Well, if you are avid followers of George RR Martin’s television universe, that weapon may be familiar to you, because it is the same dagger he uses arya stark to take down the Night King during the eighth season of Game of Thrones and that it belonged to Aegon the Conqueror, the monarch responsible for writing a phrase on it that is only visible once in contact with the heat of the fire, and that has become a standard in the series: “From my blood comes the prince that was promised, and his will shall be the song of ice and fire.”

And here comes the million dollar question, how is it that a dagger belonging to a monarch of the Targaryen house can end up in the hands of a Stark? Believe it or not, there is a series of official events that have made it possible, although we anticipate that its trajectory is to say the least convoluted. So watch out…

a family gift

As is also often the case in real-world monarchies, there are a series of objects that are bequeathed together with the title of king. Within the Targaryen family said dagger is one of those talismans. From King Viserys it has been passed from generation to generation until reaching Aerys, father of Daenerys. When he was killed by Jaime Lannister before the events of the original series, the dagger passed into the hands of Robert Baratheon and the house Lannister.

However, after the failed attempt to assassinate Bran Stark, her mother Catelyn finds it and gets hold of it to later give it to Littlefingerwho assures him that he lost it in a bet against Tyrion Lannister.

Subsequently, Little Finger will end up returning it to Bran and taking a time jump of a few years, the Three-Eyed Raven (Bran) will give it to his sister Arya and she, as we said before, will use it to kill the King of the White Walkers in a of the most epic scenes of all Game of Thrones. What a convoluted story, don’t you think?

As a final bonus, according to some leaks, it seems that this dagger inside The House of the Dragon will have some importance in the remainder of the first season, so we can’t wait to discover more of his story.

And you? Did you know the history of the Targaryen house dagger?
