There are many users who do not know, but since a long time you can download your twitter history. And it is that contrary to a widespread belief, from a certain number of messages, it is not possible to access the previous ones, which, however, are archived and are still accessible through their direct URL. Now, if you want to review your oldest messages, be it from retweeting to deleting, you will have to use the advanced search or, ideally, download your history to be able to review it for convenience.
To download your Twitter history you must take into account that the social network strives to make the process quite secure, that is, even if you are logged in you will have to prove yourself, and whether you have two-factor identification activated or not, this will also be activated to allow you to access the function. In addition, and as you will see below, it is not an immediate process. Quite the contrary, you will most likely have to wait a minimum of 24 hours before you can download it.
Even so, our recommendation is, as soon as you are interested in keeping it, and in the event of possible incidents with your user account, that you download your Twitter history from time to time (the downloads are not incremental, yes, when downloading a new updated copy you will be able to delete the previous one), so it can happen.
How to download your Twitter history step by step
The process to download your Twitter history will be divided into two parts, as we have indicated before. In the first you will have to request the file, and after a few hours, in the second you will download it to your PC. As you will see below, there is a part of both processes, that of identification, which is similar in both.
To get started, open Twitter in your web browser and, in the left sidebar, click on “More options” and, in the menu that will appear, click on “Settings and privacy”, so that the main menu is already displayed Of configuration. Already in it, look on the right side, the entrance
and click on it to start the process to download your Twitter history.
At that moment, as we have already told you previously, a box will be displayed in which you will have to put your Twitter password, to prove that it really is you.
Once you have entered it, a message will be displayed whose text will vary depending on whether Twitter has your email address, your phone number, or both. In the latter case, it will allow you to choose between an email or an SMS message to receive a code that you will have to enter to confirm that it is you.
Click to send the message and wait a few seconds to receive it, for example
Once the code has been received and entered, the section to request the download of your Twitter history will be displayed. Then click on the button
At that moment, a message will be displayed indicating that you have already requested it, and that the social network will notify you when the file is ready to be downloaded.
You have already requested to download your Twitter history, now you will have to wait until the file is available. When this happens, you may receive an email notifying you of this and, in any case, you will see a warning in your notifications.
In addition, as you will see in it, it has an expiration date, so make sure you download it before the deadline expires, or you will have to request it again, having to wait again for the time from the request until it is available.
At this point, repeat the steps that we have indicated previously to request the download of your Twitter file, that is, access to the configuration and enter the password and the security code. Now, as you will see, instead of the file request button, what is shown is a button to download it
Download the file as usual. When you have already downloaded it, you will see that it is a compressed file, inside which you will find the history. Then unzip the zip file into a folder and open it
As you may have already imagined, the HTML document with the name “Your Archive”. Double click on it and, in this way, your default browser will open and, in a tab of it, you will be able to access all your Twitter history, with tweets, likes, direct messages, etc.
