How to get the Shiny Pokémon that they give away in Sword and Shield

Although there are months left for us to have the ninth generation of Pokémon on our consoles, Game Freak has not completely left aside its eighth generation of pocket monsters. For this reason, during the next few days you will be able to add a new Shiny Pokémon to your team, thanks to the functionality of Mysterious gift.

Game Freak is giving you the 2021 Asia Champion Clefairy

During this weekend the Singapore Pokémon Championships. And to celebrate, Game Freak has decided to give all Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield players a Clefairy Shiny. This Pokémon has been chosen in honor of Jirawat Thitasirithe winner of the Pokémon Players Cup Asia in the past year 2021.

Thitasiri won the championship using his Clefairy shiny without evolving, something that has become quite fashionable among professional Pokémon players. Part of his strategy was to give the Pokémon the famous Evolutionary Ore, which boosts the defenses of any creature that is not in its final phase of evolution. Thitasiri’s decision to use a Clefairy to compete in a continental championship with a Clefairy isn’t the craziest decision a professional Pokémon player has made. In 2014, player Se Jun —known in Spain as Park’— won the 2014 VGC with a Pachirisu, a Pokémon that doesn’t evolve, but that no one in his right mind would put on a competitive team.

How is this Mystery Gift activated?

clefairy shiny.

To access the Clefairy shiny downloadyou will have to do the following steps:

  • Start your game of Pokémon Sword / Pokémon Shield. Make sure your Nintendo Switch has an Internet connection.
  • Open the menu screen and select ‘Mysterious gift‘.
  • Choose ‘receive a mysterious gift‘.
  • Choose ‘get by code‘.
  • Enter the code of Clefairy Shiny.
  • Enter your game, receive the gift and save your game.

Once this is done, you will have in your possession a Clefairy with green ears and a move set quite curious. It is the following:

  • Protection
  • Reinforcement
  • Lure
  • wind ice

This was the move set used by Jirawat Thitasiri to win the Asian championship last year. It’s about a move set specific for double fights. It will be at level 50 and will have the ability ‘Compiescort‘ (Friend Guard in English). This Hidden Ability causes allied Pokémon in Double and Triple Battles to take 25% less damage, though the user with the ability does not benefit from it. At the moment, what has not been made public is what distribution of IVs the Pokémon will have, and what nature it will have, although we imagine that it will be similar to that of the Clefairy that the champion used last year to win the championship.

The download of the Pokémon will start on June 18 only for owners of Pokémon Sword and Shield. At the moment, the code will not be able to be applied in the Diamond and Pearl remakes. This is because the only games that can access the Pokemon championship are the eighth generation ones.
