How to organize your chats in Telegram by folders

Telegram is, in principle, an instant messaging service, one of the many alternatives that emerged in the heat of the WhatsApp phenomenon, but one of the few that have grown to become a reference in its category. However, its evolution has gone its own way and it is currently rigorous to say that Telegram is much more than a simple messaging application.

I mean, In Telegram you can have your contacts, you can be in groups, subscribe to channels… and much more, actually, because each chat (each individual contact, group or channel) can vary greatly from one another: there are those that are merely contacts, there are those that are discussion forums or resource sharing, there are sources of information, content distribution…

Let’s say Telegram has become a tool that can be used for many things, on one side or the other: there are those who use it as a communication channel with their followers, which social network or syndication channel (a good example is our MC channel on Telegram, don’t miss it), who uses it to distribute your video or podcast shows; and then there is who uses it to consume all that.

Not to mention the extension of functionality by integrating Telegram with services like IFTTT and the like, or by using bots. The possibilities are enormous, but everything points to the same place, in term: the chats. And, of course, if in Telegrm you have personal, work, or other more specific contacts, you are in groups, you follow different types of channels, etc… Having everything mixed up is not practical.

For this, the folders, a method that Telegram facilitates to separate chats into categories. How you do it depends on your tastes and needs; this is a simple reminder that the option is there and that it is worth spending a couple of minutes learning about and applying it. To give you an idea with a concrete example, with this video Telegram presented the feature:

You already have an example of how you can set it up. The interesting thing about it is that when you are focused on any of those activities, you get into their folder and the annoyance of having a thousand things mixed up is reduced (although, in all honesty, Telegram has yet to improve on this aspect, as some option to mute everything that is not inside the folder you are using).

How can you create folders in TelegramIt is very simple, as you have already seen in the video:

  • In the mobile app, go to “Settings> Chat Folders”.
  • In the PC app, go to “Settings> Chat Folders”.

There you can create folders with the names you want and start adding chats. Additionally, Telegram recommends creating a folder where chats with unread messages are grouped, which can come in handy if you have too many unread messages on a regular basis, although if there are usually few, it is not necessary, because you will continue to have the main message. “Everything” folder.

In the mobile app, the folders will be displayed as tabs, while in the desktop app they will, as you have also seen in the video, in the form of a sidebar to the left of the contacts. Be that as it may, navigation is very simple and the order you win, however limited it may be, is appreciated.
