How to put a video in fast motion on Mac

Speed up videos on Mac

Family videos are insufferable, except when they’re your own. Nobody likes to go visit a friend so they can see all the photos and videos you have taken on your last vacation. When these videos are ours, if we want to make a summary video, we have to watch hours and hours (depending on the number of videos we have recorded) to find the content we want to share.

To make this task much easier, and above all faster, the best we can do is put the videos in fast camera, in order to easily find the exact moment we want to add to our compilation. If you want to know how to put a video in fast motion on Mac, I invite you to keep reading.

An aspect that we must take into account when putting videos in fast motion is the purpose. That is, if we want to speed up the video only to find the moment we want to include or if, on the contrary, we want to speed up the video and save it like this, that is, accelerated.

Fast motion videos can generate, on many occasions, comic moments which, at normal speed, have neither meaning nor grace, so if you had not considered this option, you should take it into account.

iMovie

iMovie

Once again we have to talk about iMovie, Apple’s free video editor, if we have to work with videos. With iMovie, we can not only speed up the playback of videos, but also we can save the accelerated videos to play on any player.

iMovie allows us modify the speed of the videos, called clips in the app, independently. That is, it is not necessary to modify the playback speed independently of each video, export it and add it to the summary video that we are doing.

If we want to modify the playback speed of a clip in iMovie, the first thing to do is select the clip in question.

Next, an options menu will be displayed, a menu that allows us to do editing operations with that video. In that menu, we must click on the icon that shows a speedometer and showing the name Speed.

Then a new menu will be displayed. In that menu, in the option Speed, we must play with the different settings until we find the right speed we are looking for.

All the changes we make they are reversible, although we save the project, so we can try all the options that interest us to be able to speed up or slow down the playback of a video.

When playing the video faster, depending on the chosen speed, audio may not be understood. In these cases, the best we can do is remove the sound from the video. We can also do this process with iMovie without having to resort to third-party applications.

As I mentioned above, these changes will only affect the selected clip not the whole project.

This application also eIt is available for both iPhone and iPad, with the same function, so if you record on an iPhone, you can accelerate the videos directly on your mobile without having to transfer them to your Mac.

VLC

VLC play fast video

Again we talk about VLC, the, as I always say, best video player on the market for each and every one of the mobile and desktop platforms on the market, not only because it is compatible with each and every one of the formats, but also because it is completely free and open source.

VLC is an all in one. In addition to allowing us to play any video or music file, it also incorporates additional functions such as the ability to remove the audio from a video, download YouTube videos

Regarding the playback options, VLC allows us speed up video playback, although we cannot export the result to a file as if we can do with iMovie, so this application is ideal to find in the clips of the videos that we have recorded and that we want to include in a summary video.

For speed up video playback via VLC, we must perform the steps that I show you below:

  • Once we have opened the video with the application or from the application, we go to the menu Reproduction found at the top of the application.
  • Within this menu, we look for the option Speed and select Faster or Faster (accurate). This last option allows us to adjust the playback speed to be faster or slower.

Another video editor, which we have also talked about in Soy de Mac previously that we can use to edit videos if our Mac is not compatible with iMovie it is Cute Cut, it’s Cute Cut. This application, in its free version, allows us to modify the video playback speed.

iMovie requires macOS 11.5.1 to enjoy all the functions it offers, however, we can download older versions on computers that are managed by previous versions, but with a limit.

If your team is a few years old, more than a decade, for example, it is likely that can’t download iMovie in none of its versions.

Cute Cut, works as of OSX 10.9As we can see in the description, a version that was launched more than 20 years ago on the market.

For modify the playback speed of a video with Cute Cut, we must perform the steps that I show you below:

  • To speed up or slow down the playback of a video with Cute Cut, we must, as with iMovie, select video track that we want to accelerate.
  • Next, we head to the top right of the app, where all the adjustments that we can make with the selected clip are shown.
  • In this section, search the selector displayed next to the word Speed and move it to the right to increase the playback speed.

As with iMovie, with Cute Cut we can modify the playback speed of each video or clip in an independent way, without affecting the entire video.

The limitation that we find in the free version is that we can only edit videos with a maximum length of 60 seconds and that a watermark is included.
