The Joy-Con have been for Nintendo, since the launch of Switch in March 2017, its authentic Achilles heel since they have provoked in the users a huge amount of headaches: from connection errors to parts that did not work as they should – the sticks– and they caused a truly calamitous user experience. If something similar happens to you, see what we tell you below.
Nintendo joins the European Union
BEUC, the most important consumer organization in the European Union, announced on April 4 that Nintendo had decided to offer all Switch users special coverage to resolve problems caused by your Joy-Conthe controls that we can put on and remove from the Japanese console and that usually fail, as a general rule, before they are two years old.
That is why you should keep in mind that, if this is your case, It doesn’t matter if you bought the controls for your console in 2017 or 2019 that will be covered by this special program that the Japanese have announced and that, until now, limited its impact to the last 36 months thanks to a grace period that was granted exclusively from Nintendo.
Specifically, they warn on their official website that “Nintendo offers consumers who have purchased the corresponding product within the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland free repair at an official Nintendo repair center of the control levers due to the reaction capacity problem. This measure is applied even if the problem of reaction capacity is caused by the wear of the product, and even if the 36-month manufacturer’s warranty provided by Nintendo has already expired«.
So if you currently have some Joy-Con that do not work well and that are more than two years old, we are going to explain how to get in touch with Nintendo so that they can fix them or change them for ones that do fulfill their purpose without giving mistakes.
How to contact Nintendo?
The way to contact Nintendo is through its website, where we can request a specific repair for the Joy-Con. So you go to her and you will see a series of problems that we can suffer. In each of them, possible remedies and solutions are explained, although if everything has been seen there is no way for things to improve, then it is time to request a repair.
But before requesting it, keep in mind the following that the company advises (it is literal text):
- If it is not possible to calibrate the levers, Joy-Con controllers will need to be repaired that are not working correctly. It is not necessary to send the entire console.
- If a Joy-Con controller is properly seated on the console, but the joystick still doesn’t respond as it should, it will need to be repaired. It is not necessary to send the entire console.
- […] Nintendo may refuse to repair a Joy-Con controller’s joystick responsiveness issue free of charge if (a) the issue is caused by accessories or other items intended for use with the controller, but not manufactured by or to Nintendo (whether or not they were included with the controller at the time of purchase), (b) the controller has been used for commercial or rental purposes, (c) the problem has been caused by accidental damage, by own negligence or that of a third party, unreasonable use, modification, use with products not supplied, licensed or authorized by Nintendo for use with the controller, (d) the controller has been opened, modified or repaired by a person or company other than Nintendo or its authorized representatives (unless there is no clear correlation between the opening, modification, or repair and the Joy-Con controller stick responsiveness issue), or if the serial number of the remote has been altered, modified or removed.
if we believe that can we claim this repair serviceaccess from here, leaving all your data (Nintendo Switch or Joy-Con serial number, name, address, etc.) so that the Japanese can take over and pick them up at your own home.
