Howard the Duck: Lea Thompson would like to direct the reboot

This allowed the actress to Back to the Future to ride the wave of tweets and propose to Marvel Studios as the director of a film dedicated to the Space Duck.

Written and directed by Willard Huyck (American Graffiti, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) the film saw Howard the Duck teleported from Duckworld, his home world, to Earth, landing in Cleveland. There he made the acquaintance of Beverly (Thompson), who introduced him to his friend Phil (Tim Robbins) and the scientist Dr. Jenning (Jeffrey Jones). In an attempt to bring him back to his planet, the Dr. Jenning he was being possessed by an alien being ready to defeat Howard and take over the planet.

Lea Thompson has been involved for some years in the project of bringing the Marvel character back to the big screen and already in 2018 he had declared: “I have been working on this for a long time, helped by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones, formerly responsible for the 1986 film. It was fantastic so I asked for their help to create something new, which Marvel really liked. They loved our ideas even though they didn’t really have plans for such a project. They left everything on hold in the hope that this dream could come true“.

You can never know exactly what the development plans are Marvel Studios and who knows that, surprisingly, the announcement of a new film dedicated to Howard. In the meantime, we will be able to see the strange duck again in the series What If arriving in August on the platform Disney Plus.
