Huawei launches program to train 5 million women in IT in Brazil

The Huawei launched a new edition of the Women in Tech program, aimed at encouraging female participation in the technology market.

Women in Tech is developed in partnership with Fabi Saad, entrepreneur and founder of the Positive Women project. The program will offer free training courses in several areas of technology, such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and 5G. Huawei expects to impact around 5 million professionals, who will have access to the company’s education platform qualification courses in the app. positive women.

“Our goal is to show that the technology sector is a possible career for everyone. We want to encourage from the ground up, attract talented young people to join and complete their careers in technology”, explains Adriana Recco, Communications Director at Huawei Brazil. According to the executive, the challenge begins at universities, as only 14.8% of ICT students are women. “Internally, we offer mentoring programs to develop new leadership. From the door out, we offer free training courses in partnership with universities and the Positive Women app”, she adds.

Huawei seeks to empower women for 5G

Another project is the 5G WorkShop for Women, a circuit of lectures, in an online and in-person format, to offer the technical bases of 5G technology for professionals who want to update themselves or enter the market. “We are creating an environment where 5G technology can be used to increase well-being and encourage participation in the ICT sector. The program was designed to have national reach”, explains the executive.

In Brazil and worldwide, the technology market faces challenges in attracting talent and qualifying the workforce. According to a report by Brasscom – Association of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Technologies Companies, the sector will demand 420 thousand qualified professionals between 2019 and 2024, an average of 70 thousand people per year. Currently, around 37 thousand students are trained in higher and technical education. By taking a gender cut, it is noted that, globally, women are underrepresented in ICT jobs, leadership positions and academic careers in the sector.

The launch of the program was broadcast online and had representatives from Brazilian governmental organizations and international intergovernmental organizations.
