Huawei Pocket S will be the cheapest (not cheap) folding mobile on the market. It has just been presented in the Chinese market and is very similar in design to Huawei’s own P50 Pocket, Samsung’s Flip or Motorola Razr, personally the one I like the most among the compact foldables.
It must be said to begin with that folding smartphones will have to go down in price if they want to conquer the consumer segment. Many users are waiting… And there are several ways to make this happen. One of them is the strategy adopted by Huawei, lowering the level of non-essential components to reduce costs.
The Huawei Pocket S looks a lot like its big brother, the P50 Pocket from 2021. Repeat the 6.9-inch flexible main screen with OLED technology diagonal in 21:9 format, resolution of 2,790 x 1,188 pixels, refresh rate of 120 Hz and touch sampling of 300 Hz. Also available is the small 1.04-inch OLED secondary screen with a resolution of 340 x 340 pixels.
The most notable level “downgrade” comes from its chipset. Compared to the previous Snapdragon 888, Huawei bets on a Snapdragon 778G more affordable, accompanied by a configuration of 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage capacity.
There is also a certain reduction in benefits in the system of main cameraReplacing the third 32MP “ultra spectrum” sensor with f/1.8 aperture to capture color depth, there’s a laser sensor for autofocus. The front camera is the same at 10.7MP. The terminal has a 4,000 mAh battery compatible with 40-watt fast charging and support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 LE.

With pre-installed HarmonyOS operating system and green, yellow, pink, black and blue color finishes, the foldable will be available in China on November 10 in the following configurations and prices:
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: 820 dollars to change.
- 8 GB of RAM + 256 GB of storage: 890 dollars to change.
Although it is not likely to reach the international market at these prices, it is the cheapest of its kind and we hope that the strategy will be extended and the new generation of foldables will be marketed at more reasonable prices.
