I really like Xbox Game Pass, but I’ve gone back to buying games one by one

Xbox Game Pass is, for many gamers, one of the best things that have happened in the world of video games because it brings the possibility of having a huge number of titles available at a price that would be unthinkable at other times in history. That is why the number of followers continues to grow and with it the number of new features that Microsoft bets on month after month.

Game Pass: perfect for the here and now

Thus, it is clear that the Xbox Game Pass alternative is the perfect one to squeeze a console at a very specific time. In other words, if you subscribe to enjoy the number of games that are updated month after month, it’s to always have something modern and quality on hand with which to have a good time for days or weeks. So on paper it’s perfect but I must say that, at least in the case of the undersigned, that initial crush has passed for a better life.

And do not think that we are looking for defects in the service: Xbox Game Pass is perfect whichever way you look at it, without paying attention to what it means economically for a company to launch its novelties directly there or without thinking about what each other will gain or lose. Just for customer service it’s a 10, but in the last few months I’ve realized that I had to repurchase the games one by one. With patience and peace of mind, and at the best price taking advantage of offers, but get them again from the Microsoft Store.

It already happened with the music

Music flat rates are also here to stay, after years of growing a music library that was born from the huge collection of CDs that I bought during the 90s and part of the 2000s. There was a time that because of Spotify or Apple Music I stopped updating it but I quickly realized how wrong that was. Why? Well, music rights come and go and one day I found that an album that I listened to often became unavailable. How was it possible?

At that moment I had to go back to my old music library, upload it to YouTube Music and only then did I have access to listen to it again. With Xbox Game Pass I have a feeling something similar will happen. That the games we have now are perfect for the current moment, for today’s generation, but that over the years, in the end, what is truly unalterable will be the library that we procure, the one that we feed month after month with the novelties that really attract us and encourage us to buy individually. Because otherwise, this generation will pass and if Microsoft decides that Game Pass is not the future and closes it, or limits it too much by eliminating many of the games it has stored, we will have a hollow console without those classics that made us vibrate so much.

Until now I have been able to revive old games with cartridges, CDs, GD-Rom, DVD and mini DVD, UMD, Blu-ray and downloads of all the consoles that have hit the stores. Game Pass is great for enjoyment today, here and now, but it’s not so clear to me when I look to the future and hope to be able, in 15 or 20 years, to relive glorious moments with my favorite Xbox Series X (or Xbox Series S) games because, nobody knows, if by then Microsoft will have forgotten of video games and that flat rate that seems so great today ends up becoming the worst enemy of an entire generation.
