In recent days, a rumor has emerged that NVIDIA could launch very soon SUPER versions of its graphics RTX 4070 and RTX 4080, versions that are obviously superior and that seek to “fill” gaps in their catalog both in terms of performance and price. However, do these versions mean that the company is going to discontinue the previous ones? Let’s see it.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 was launched on November 16, 2022, while the RTX 4070 was launched on April 13 of this year. This means that the RTX 4080 is about to turn one year old, while its younger sister is barely 6 months old and, in this case, it certainly seems too early to replace it anymore when the previous versions have not been released long ago and top Ti (RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4070 Ti).
What do the SUPER versions of NVIDIA provide?
NVIDIA’s SUPER series of graphics cards were first introduced with the RTX 20 Series, with more cores and faster than its normal versions that resulted, according to the company’s own data, in gaming performance up to 25% higher. They certainly represented a step forward in terms of performance at that time, but that does not mean that the same will happen now.
Although at the moment these SUPER versions of the NVIDIA RTX 4070 and 4080 are just a rumor, we all already know how this usually works and they will surely end up being a reality (what is not known is when, it was rumored at the beginning 2024). In any case, and although we obviously do not have the slightest idea of its technical specifications, the NVIDIA catalog would be approximately as follows (there are many questions and things to be defined, of course):
GPU | Cores | TMUS/ROPS | Speed (Boost) | VRAM/BUS | Bandwidth | TGP | Price (MRSP) | Launch | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
GeForce RTX 4090 | Ada Lovelace AD102-300 | 16384 | 512 / 176 | 2520MHz | 24GB GDDR6X/384-bit | 1008 GB/s | 450W | $1599 | 12th October 2022 |

GeForce RTX 4070 | Ada Lovelace AD104-250 | 5888 | 184 / 64 | 2475MHz | 12GB GDDR6X/192-bit | 504GB/s | 200W | $549 | 13th April 2023 |
GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16GB | Ada Lovelace AD106-350 | 4352 | 136 / 48 | 2535MHz | 16GB GDDR6/128-bit | 288GB/s | 165W | $449 | 18th July 2023 |
GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB | Ada Lovelace AD106-350 | 4352 | 136 / 48 | 2535MHz | 8GB GDDR6/128-bit | 288GB/s | 160W | $399 | 24th May 2023 |
GeForce RTX 4060 | Ada Lovelace AD107-400 | 3072 | 96 / 48 | 2460MHz | 8GB GDDR6/128-bit | 272 GB/s | 115W | $299 | 29th June 2023 |
What seems clear is that we would talk about three SUPER models:
- The RTX 4080 SUPER would be below the RTX 4090 but above the current RTX 4080.
- The RTX 4070 Ti SUPER should be below the RTX 4080, but above the current RTX 4070 Ti.
- The RTX 4070 SUPER would be below the current RTX 4070 Ti but above the RTDX 4070.
If NVIDIA continues in the line of what it has done in previous generations, these new graphics cards would have a higher core count and a higher operating speed, in addition to – according to rumors – a greater amount of dedicated graphics memory ( Let’s remember: the RTX 4080 SUPER would have 20 GB compared to the 16 GB of the normal model, the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER would have 16 GB compared to the 12 GB of the normal model and the RTX 4070 SUPER would also have 16 GB compared to the 12 GB of the model normal).
Okay, what about the current graphs?
As we have already explained in the previous section, these new graphics would not be able to “cannibalize” the current ones, that is, they should be placed in terms of performance and price between the existing models, which means that the current graphics, unless it happens Something strange, they should continue to be manufactured and sold, at least for a while, since otherwise NVIDIA would be shooting itself in the foot… right?
What is true is that now the NVIDIA catalog is going to be quite full, at least at the top of the table, with a large number of different models to choose from. That is good for us, the users, since this way we can choose the graphic that best suits our needs and budget without having to spend large amounts of money for it.
For example, currently if you want to go from an RTX 4070 Ti to an RTX 4080 you would have to pay a difference of about 400 Euros, and with the arrival of the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER that difference to make the jump should be much smaller.
