Ikea begins to unveil the products of its catalog in 3D, through Google Search

More and more Ikea stores are listing 3D models of the products that line their shelves. In a few months, if all the employees of the Swedish giant participate in this effort, all of the 10,000 or more references in the company’s catalog will be viewable in augmented reality directly in a search engine.

The global furniture giant has just announced that it will now be possible to study its products from all angles through the Google search engine. Regulars of the yellow and blue brand probably already use this feature in the Swedish company’s mobile application. The latter is certainly very practical, but it is only available on iPhone, and it requires installation, even if it is only to view an object in 3D, in its context. An approach that can discourage some Internet users and which, perhaps, prevents a quick passage to the act of purchase. A shortfall for Ikea, therefore, but also for Google.

With its 450 stores in 53 countries, Ikea is the most popular brand in the field of furniture and decoration. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to get an idea of the dimensions of their product, especially if you do not want to install the Ikea Place application on your smartphone. Many shops have thus begun to submit models of the company’s furniture and objects to the Mountain View firm’s search engine.

3D Ikea products finally arrive in Google Search

From now on, you just have to enter the name of the Ikea furniture that you want to study in Google Search. Among the links displayed, you will see a “View in 3D” option. Even better, if you’re viewing the search engine from a smartphone or tablet, you can even take advantage of your device’s mixed or augmented reality features.

Admittedly, not all the products of the Swedish brand are listed yet, but the idea is very good. So good that we can consider that eventually they will be all available in 3D directly from the browser.
