Indra and Telefónica will create the Cybersecurity Operations Center

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has awarded the construction and implementation of the Cybersecurity operations center to a UTE (Temporary union of companies) formed by Indra and Telefónica. Specifically, by Telefónica’s technological solutions subsidiary, Telefónica Tech, and by the Indra division dedicated to technology. The UTE has been awarded this concession for 46.4 million euros, according to La Información.

This offer has been the only one that has submitted an offer to take over this project, for which European funds will be used and that the ministry has awarded by the urgent procedure, by virtue of the provisions of the decree law for the execution of the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience.

The Cybersecurity Operations Center is considered a key infrastructure to be able to organize the defense against cyberattacks on large organizations. It was included in the National Cybersecurity Strategy, proposed in 2019, within its section dedicated to the updating and modernization of public administrations.

However, it was not until May 2021 when it was announced within the framework of the Cybersecurity Shock Plan. This plan is designed to improve the defense of entities and organizations against attacks, and is made up of various initiatives that will be financed with European funds.

According to the criteria established for the evolution of the offers that are presented for its development, it will have a software platform for managing information and security events (SIEM) that occur at a given time. In addition to this software platform, the center will also have a specialized endpoint threat detection and response (EDR) system. The works for its commissioning have an expected duration of 21 months, which means that it can be available and operational by the end of 2023.
