Tiny11 is a stripped down version of Windows 11 that is designed to consume less resources than the standard version of said operating system, and this allows it to work even on PCs with old hardware and rather limited features.
To reduce its weight and the consumption of resources, the creators of Tiny11 removed features, apps, and other non-vital items for the operation of said operating system, and this resulted in a kind of Windows 11 “mini” that has generated a lot of interest, and that has proven to be so versatile that it is even capable of allowing things as curious as its installation on the graphics card memory.
NTDEV has shared a video showing how Tiny11 works installed in the 4 GB of graphics memory that the GeForce RTX 3050 brings from your laptop. This has been possible thanks to the use of GpuRamDrive, a tool that we can also see in the video. It goes without saying that, when performing this installation, the amount of memory that remains free is very small, since we are talking about a graphics card that only has 4 GB of VRAM.
However, the performance offered by this type of memory is very high and allows the operating system to move with a total fluency. This experiment is more of a curiosity than anything else, that’s for sure, but it’s very interesting to see what we can achieve with a bit of optimization and the versatility and flexibility that Windows 11 can have when we separate the “wheat from the chaff”, and only those functions and characteristics that really matter are left.
As an anecdote, I remind you that a couple of years ago it was alsoand managed to install Crysis 3 on the graphics memory of a GeForce RTX 3090, a graphics card that, as many of our readers will know, has 24 GB of VRAM. In this case, the game took up around 15GB of graphics memory, a number that makes it impossible to achieve that feat on a lesser graphics card. There was still a more than enough amount free so that the game could work at its maximum, and in 4K resolution, in a completely fluid way.
