Intel A380 vs RX 6500 XT vs RTX 3050 in OpenCL, is it competitive?

We are all excited about what Intel is going to launch on the market, but the “hype” is gradually falling as the date approaches and the data is leaking. Today we have new contributions through SiSoftware where we see the small A380 compete against its direct rivals and… It is possible that the A380 is not as competitive as expected, at least in OpenCL.

Oddly enough we continue with the most basic guesses about final specifications of all models despite the fact that the date is very close. Intel is taking the maximum possible discretion although on the other hand it shows certain aspects or details. The important thing in the end is performance and price and that is where we are looking for data. To those seen two weeks ago, now we must add new data from the A380 against the RX 6500 XT and the RTX 3050, the main competitors, can it match or exceed them?

Intel A380: OpenCL performance vs. AMD and NVIDIA

There are four data offered by the SiSoftware suite, where the main threats of this A380 graphics card have been compared. AMD RX 6500 XT and NVIDIA RTX 3050 are its rivals, but the GTX 1660 Ti curiously sneaks into the comparison. The data offered are Mandel Haft, Mandel Float, Mandel Double and Mandel Quad, which we will now deal with.

In the first one, the Intel card doesn’t really look bad with 12,948 points It falls behind the more than 15,000 that NVIDIA GPUs achieve and ahead of the 11,000 of AMD.

In Mandel Double the opposite happens, it is ahead of the NVIDIA but far behind the AMD that is very strong here with 591 Mpix/s.

In Quad, although the AMD card does not offer records, it turns out that the A380 obtains the best performance against NVIDIA with 33.95 Mpix/s. We are thus left with Mandel Float, which is the closest indicative value to gaming performance within this suite.

Intel would have to compete on price

The 6,389 points in Mandel Float are not enough to reach the almost 9,000 of the GTX 1660 Ti and the more than 11,000 of the RTX 3050, where it would also stay 1,000 points behind the RX 6500 XT. Therefore, and despite the fact that the hardware that this graphics card will include, as well as the high frequency of 2.45GHz of the die do not seem to be enough to even the contest against their rivals.

It is true that we speak of a GPU with 128 EUs and 1,024 shaders which will include 6GB of GDDR6 at 14Gbps with a single bus 96 bitbut it is also true that to measure the performance in OpenCL games it is not the best way and even less considering Float as such.

If the performance and distance is such, finally Intel ARC Alchemist would have to compete on prices, if instead it is more competitive then it could maintain that same cost strategy, stealing share from millions of gamers who are waiting for a disruptive moment in the industry. Curiously, the price of its rivals begins to fall, is it a coincidence?
